“Just taking in the fill of my brilliance. I vowed I would get to you one day, especially when you started to cut away chunks of my skin with your knife. I swore I would one day make you suffer, and look at that. You’re fucking pathetic.”

I smiled. “You really think so? Coming from a cripple? Even with me chained to the wall, you’re still afraid to get within six feet of me. Why is that? Are you afraid the nightmares might come back to haunt you?”

He sneered. “I don’t get fucking nightmares. I sleep very well at night. Do you?”

“Yeah? Is that why you’re trying to numb everything out with alcohol? If I remember correctly, I did more than cut you open, didn’t I?” I taunted.

My eyes came down to his crotch area. I might have hurt him for keeping Nikolay, but I cut off his dick and fed it to him for the little boy he kept in the basement of his house for six months.

And when the cops got close, he killed the boy and threw his body in the East River, as if he had been nothing more than trash.

I rarely made things personal, but fuck, evenIdrew the line at hurting children.

“Shut up!” he shouted.

I grinned, even if it hurt to do so. I might have reopened my lip because the sharp taste of blood hit my tongue, but it didn’t matter.

Luca threw his drink in my face, the alcohol stinging the cuts.

I laughed.

He walked up to me and grabbed a fistful of my hair, pulling back until I looked at him.

Perfect.

Before he could think to react, I wrapped my arms around him and held on tight, one hand holding him down while the other came up to his neck.

I squeezed with all my strength while he thrashed around, struggling to get free.

My lips grazed his ear. “If I don’t leave this place alive, know this. I’ll fucking take you with me. We can both meet the Devil in Hell together.”

His blunt nails came down to my hand, scratching at it.

It was a wasted effort, considering a numbness had long since come down upon me.

When I felt his body close to giving out, and I knew he was only moments from losing consciousness, I eased up on the hand holding him down and moved it over his suit jacket. My fingers found the hard, sharp object on the side.

Bingo.

I was looking for his cellphone, but a fucking key would do.

I deftly took it, knowing Luca wasn’t even aware I was doing it, and hid it behind me, under the pile of hay.

My grip around his neck tightened. Fuck, if I had half of my strength, he would have been dead already, but I could feel exhaustion seeping into my bones.

The metal door creaked as someone pushed it wider, and Leo walked in.

He let out a surprised shout and pulled Luca away. Just in time.

I had been so close to ending him.

Luca gasped and coughed for air, and I took in the sound, enjoying every struggle he was going through.

“Stupid fucker. Don’t you know better than to get close to him?” Leo asked him.

Luca didn’t answer. I didn’t think he could.

Leo shook his head. “Leave. And don’t come back here alone again.”
