“The touch rugby team are having a thing.”

“Touch rugby… as in the guy you were with tonight?”

His tone was light, but his hand crept over her shoulder, pulling her closer to him.

Beth gave him a look. “Yes, but there’s nothing to it. Tonight was the only time we went out and it was a non-event.”

“If you say so.” He moved between her legs. “Has anyone ever told you that you’ve got the nicest pussy in the world?”

“Um, no?”

He glanced up, envy still darkening his green eyes. His tongue brushed over her clit and she shivered. “You don’t have to…”

“I do,” Byron said, weaving his arms around her thighs. “Don’t worry, Horoscopes. I’ve got this.”

And everything that wasn’t his tongue gliding across her slipped from Beth’s mind.

Chapter 19

The last sunrise of 2020 dawned fresh and perfect. Beth woke in a stranger’s bed, her heart feeling as fragile as blown glass. She looked across at Byron, taking in the planes of his face, the inky black lashes that were pale at the tips. He reached out for her and she let him tumble her into his arms.

“Stay with me today,” he mumbled.

“You’re atmyplace.”

“Then I’ll stay with you all day.”

“And tonight?”

He pressed his nose into her cheek. “Tonight too. Tonight, and tomorrow morning and tomorrow night and the morning after that…”

So, they stayed in bed all day, not eating or drinking. They seemed sustained by their own fascination, staring into each other’s eyes and kissing each other’s skin.

She told him, “My ex and I went to a sex party a few months before we broke up. I got shitfaced and threw up in the only bathroom.”

Byron whistled.

“Yeah. You weren’t even supposed to be tipsy. I was so lucky I didn’t get kicked out.”

He sat up, his face a study in conflicted interest. “Did you like it?”

“No, I couldn’t do more than kiss anyone.” She exhaled. “I’ve never told anyone that. Except Dolly. Dolly’s cool.”

“Dolly is cool,” he agreed. “I listened to a few more of your podcasts last week. They’re actually great.”

“Thanks,” Beth said. “We’re talking a bit more now. Me and Dolly. I’ve been thinking about asking if she wants to start recording again.”

“You should. Tomorrow. Today.”

She laughed. “Maybe.”

An hour later, he told her, “I got way too into gear after Audrey left.”

“Coke?”

“Nah, caps.” He shifted, pulling the sheets away from his chest. “I never did them while I was playing. I never would have risked it, but after… I got carried away.”

“Did you have fun?”
