He glared at me, and then picked the glass back up. “You know what? Maybe I will. Maybe I’ll just pour this over your head, little bug. Then you’ll be all wet and sticky for the rest of the night.”
“I’m wet and sticky anyway.”
His eyes narrowed. “Can you keep it together for five minutes.”
“It’s been fifteen, and you spent itparking.”
“Order your dinner, and a cobb salad for me, and then bring it over when it comes out.” He turned and walked away towards the set of couches and armchairs in the corner.
“Wait!” I shouted. “What drink can I order?” My shouting caught people’s attention, and the people around us quieted.
Without turning to look at me, he said, “You can have water.”
I whined. “No...”
Reuben stopped. He stood still with his back to me, as if waiting for something. I could see his shoulders tense, waiting for me to make my decision.
“Oh, sorry. No,Sir.”
Reuben turned around. He looked smug as hell, and a little angry. Like, sexy angry, but still angry.
Hey. He knew this was coming. That wasliterallywhy we were here.
He walked very slowly back towards where I sat at the bar. I crossed my legs and smiled at him as adorably as possible, trying to ignore the fact that people were now staring at us.To be fair, I was asmidgenervous.
He took my shoulders and spun me around on my bar stool, making me face Megan. Her face was pale and her eyes had gone wide, and she’d slunk back into herself slightly, as if she were shielding herself subconsciously, or like she wanted to hide behind something.
Reuben’s fingers dug into my shoulders, and he lowered his mouth to my ear.
His voice was nothing more than a whisper. “You see that face she’s making?... That’s the face you should be making.”
My stomach flipped, and I barely contained a moan.
He let go of me, walking slowly and purposefully towards a small door near the back of the dungeon. Megan and I both watched him go.
“He’s going to go find some horrible device to torture me with, isn’t he?”
“Yeah.”
“Hm.” I sat there, staring at his huge shoulders disappearing behind the door. Then I stood up. “Welp, time to hide.”
“Uh... you shouldbeg.”
I pretended to consider it for a minute. “Nah, I think I’m gonna hide.”
