Chapter Nineteen
“Speak up, Tali,” Eriksaid, pulling back.
Tali tucked Ingrid’s hair behind her ear, his touch soothing and gentle, even though the words on his tongue were going to cause a sting.
“At the monastery,” Tali said, “Ingrid disobeyed me. I told her to stay on the walkway, when I looked up she’d gone.”
“Gone?” Erik frowned.
“Not far,” Ingrid said quickly, a tingle of apprehension knotting in her belly. “Only into a grain store.”
“Had you been told to go into the grain store?” Gunnvar asked, his voice sharp.
She shook her head.
“You know what it means to be our wife,” Gunnvar went on. “It means you do as you’re told in order for us to keep you safe.”
“I only went—”
“There is noonlyabout it,” Tali said, his voice louder and firmer. “You went from my sight when you were ordered to stay within it.”
She lowered her eyes. There was no response to that, but she knew what the response would be from Tali. She would feel his hand on her ass.
Erik stepped away and jabbed his fingers through his hair. “Thor give me strength. This woman of ours is disobedient.”
Gunnvar pulled his hand from her tunic and then tugged it, closing it up again tight. As if trapping her in it, keeping her safe and secure within the soft leather.
Raud had his hands on his hips, staring at her, his cheeks a little red. His broad, naked chest was rising and falling with each breath.
“Raud,” she said. “I was only—”
“I agree with them, we want you to be safe. You are my world, and theirs, that much is clear.”
“So you can do it,” Erik said, gesturing to Raud. “You can dole out the punishment.”
“Me?” Raud looked at Tali. “But it was you she disobeyed.”
“That is acceptable to me,” Tali said, slipping his hand to Ingrid’s ass and squeezing. “As long as you show us the proof, Raud, that you have spanked her thoroughly.”
“Proof?” Ingrid said, gulping.
“Ja,you will have a red rump when you leave these shores, and you will once again have been reminded to do as you are bid by your men.” Tali set his usually smiling mouth into a hard line.
