“My family’s looking for me. They’re worried I stumbled off drunk somewhere, and that I’m now lost.” The slight irritation in her voice was clear, and I couldn’t blame her.
I remembered her telling me about the wedding, and somewhere in between she had mentioned her family still treating her like a child. Watching her now, she was no child. I wished I could bring her back to bed and make love to her all over again.
My dick stirred at the thought.
“Are you sure you have to go?” I asked.
“Trust me, if I could avoid them all day I would. But I don’t want to worry my parents anymore.”
“I get that. And as much as I want to spend the day with you in this bed, I unfortunately have somewhere to be.”
“Your father?” Jessica asked, focusing on pulling her dress over her head.
“Bingo. Hey, do you want some clothes to wear besides that dress?”
“No, this is fine. I’ll stop by my room before seeing my family.”
Sitting up straighter, I continued to watch her gather her things. I felt like a completely different person that morning, and that was strange. I’d been no stranger to one-night hookups, but there was something about her that changed something in me.
“I want to see you again,” I stated.
Jessica was obviously hesitant. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Why not?”
“Because.”
“Because, why? Come on, Jess. What harm is it going to do if we have another night together?”
She took her bottom lip between her teeth, clearly thinking it over. “Okay.” Jessica finally agreed. “Here, give me your number.”
Excited, I grabbed her phone and quickly punched in my number, the screen blurry because of my impaired eyesight. “I’m only in town for a couple more days, so don’t take your time,” I half-heartedly joked.
“I promise I’ll call you.” Jess gave me a shy smile, fully dressed and ready to leave.
As she passed by the bed, I gently grabbed her wrist and tugged her down to me. Our lips met, and I felt the world spin around me. The kiss was over before it began, but it left its mark on my soul.
“Thank you,” I whispered, letting go of her.
Jessica said nothing else as she left. The sound of the hotel room door closing behind her gave me mixed feelings. I was excited about seeing her again, but worried about what might happen if I did.
Jessica Flynn might’ve just altered my life in one night.
My locker door whined when I opened it, shoving my coat into it and pulling out my bag. As predicted, it was certainly a long day.
I quickly changed and made my way out of the hospital. My mind was preoccupied with a patient who didn’t seem to get any better. I’d spent the day searching for a way to help him along, but it was going to take more time.
Which I worried my patient didn’t have.
Preoccupied with that, I didn’t realize that I’d actually made it all the way to my car. Yet, I was startled to find Jessica leaning against the driver’s side door with a radiant grin and coffee in her hands.
Not stopping, I walked straight up to her and kissed her with everything I had. She’d been on my mind all day, save for my work.
“You’re just the person I needed to see,” I said against her lips.
“Long day?”
“Too long.” I ran a hand down her arm, leaning against my car as well.
