She gasped, her hand flying to her mouth.
“What?”
He swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing, as he slipped his hands up to cup her face. He placed a single, heart-stopping kiss on her forehead.
“The moment I saw you across the bar all those months ago, I was lost. I fell so hard, so fast, it scared the shit out of me. So…I ran. The worst mistake of my life…because I never should have left that bed, baby. I should have woken you up with soft kisses down your back, gentle touches on your neck, your thighs, murmured praise of your beauty in your ear. I should have made love to you. I should have taken you to breakfast then dragged you to the jeweler to put a fucking ring on it because I knew you were it for me. I knew you were my future…but I was still drowning in my past. I was still letting the guilt suck me under when I should have been fighting the current to get to shore. To get to you.”
Tears coursed down her face, but he wiped them away.
“I want to start over, Sally. I want to erase that night and make a new one, one where we leave all the shit from our pasts behind and create a future that is beautiful and spectacular and all ours.”
She didn’t know she was nodding her head until Sly had to drop his hands to her shoulders.
“I want that. I want that so much, Sly. But….” Could this be real? Could this be her chance to have all she ever wanted with the only man she ever wanted?
Take the chance! Take the risk!
“I know there are risks to opening up, baby. I lived them. But I promise you, you will never go a day without knowing much I love you.”
“You love me,” she repeated dumbly.
His smile split his face, and a light unlike any she’d ever seen before lit up his face.
“I love you so fucking much. And I want to spend the rest of my life telling you, showing you, reminding you that you are mine, you are loved, you are my forever.”
Her heart crying out for his, she blurted, “I love you, too—so fucking much!”
With a shout that made dozens of eyes turn to them, Sly slammed his mouth down on hers, devouring her, pouring the truth of his feelings into every stroke of his tongue, every nip of her lips, and every groan. Before she could totally forget where they were and rip his clothes off, he broke their kiss, threw a fifty on the bar, and pulled her off the stool. They were through the crowd and out the door in a minute, headed to his Audi in the parking lot.
“Where are we going?” she asked huskily, her breathing hot and heavy from the kiss and not the hurry.
He stopped when they reached the passenger door where he turned her, pushed her up against it, and smiled down at her.
“Don’t you remember, my love? After we met at the bar, we headed to your place,” he said, growling as he bent down to nibble on her bottom lip. She moaned, throwing her arms around his neck to pull him down to kiss him properly. He chuckled.
“We’re going to my place, huh? Going to recreate all that amazing sex, too?” she purred, slanting a smile at him she knew would make his cock hard.
“Yes. And then I’m going to wake you up in the morning, make love to you again…and then tell you I love you.”
“You love me….” She couldn’t get over it.
He pressed another slow kiss to her lips.
“Forever and ever.”
