When you look in my eyes,
I am home,
And I,
Don’t know how.
But I’ll spend my life loving you,
In the now.
My love won’t look the same as someone else’s,
But it’s yours and no one else’s,
Your heart is where my wealth is.
Give me a moment,
To get the words right.”
The song faded into the stillness of the condo.
He set the guitar aside and picked his wine up.
She sat in stunned silence, her heart suddenly too big for her body.
He sipped that damned pink wine, a huge smile on his face. Like he knew exactly what he’d done to her.
“You look like you’re very proud of yourself,” she observed, feigning irritation.
“I am.” He pumped his eyebrows. “I’m feelingveryconfident right now.”
A surprised giggle escaped her. “Oh really?”
“I mean, I’m pretty sure I started falling in love with you the moment I saw you. And, I know you love me back. So yeah, I’m feeling myself.”
He put the empty wine glass aside and came for her. He planted his fists on either side of her hips, caging her in. He brushed his nose along hers and she watched his indigo eyes darken.
“So, you love me?” she asked, sounding way more casual and cool than she felt.
His mouth was inches from hers.
“Hell yeah, I love you,” he replied gruffly. “You love me?”
“Hell yeah,” she whispered.
He touched her mouth with his and drew back slightly.
“Marry me,” he said.
She put her hands on his shoulders and studied his earnest but patient expression.
He didn’t say it again. He didn’t take it back. He just waited for her to decide.
It was the strangest thing.
She knew without knowing.
