Yeah, no.

Her body was now going to be starring in every fantasy he’d ever have for the rest of his life.

She had to be so confused by him at this point.

That thought deflated him instantly.

He didn’t want to hurt her or confuse her.

He was confused enough for the both of them.

He needed to figure out what he wanted. For both their sakes.

Because right now, with her body fresh in his mind, he was ready to commit to forever. Take all the vows and never look back.

But that was crazy.

Right?

Voices filtered through the bedroom door and he knew he was going to have to face her sooner or later. It wasn’t like he could just get dressed and sneak out the window.

But he didn’t have any answers.

And she’d have questions.

Fuck, she had arightto her questions.Hewas the one with all the mixed signals.

He craned his neck around to look at the tall windows. Was that a fire escape?

Maybe he could just disappear into the night like Batman.

He slid out of bed and put on his sweatpants while examining the latch to the window. It looked like it opened easily enough. He could just climb onto her dresser, open the latch, and step onto the metal staircase.

Except it was Chicago. Also known as the frozen tundra.

He’d die before he made it to the ground.

On the other hand, it would be cold enough that his erection definitely wouldn’t come back.

While he contemplated whether dying on the side of a Chicago building was an honorable death or not, the bedroom door opened.

“Oh, you’re awake!”

He turned to find Sabine’s bright smile at the doorway.

“We have pizza if you’re hungry,” she offered, motioning with her thumb over her shoulder.

She’d showered and her hair was in the twin braids that seemed to be her brand and she was no longer in his shirt.

Why did that disappoint him so much?

“Sounds good,” he replied, voice tight. He tried to clear his throat.

She narrowed her eyes at him and tilted her head. “Were you thinking of jumping out the window just now?”

He pursed his lips because he didn’t want to answer that question.

She laughed and for some reason he loved it.
