Trev blinked. “Wow. I didn’t even think of that.”

“I don’t need someone to buy me shiny things. I can do that for myself. What I need is someone who always shows up, who always has my back. And you’ve been that person for me, even when I failed to offer you the same. If you think you can stand living with a witch, I’m yours for better or worse, just like we promised in Vegas. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I meant those vows. I truly did.”

“I love you,” Trev whispered. “So damn much. Nobody else made me feel like I could ever put myself back together.”

“But I didn’tdoanything,” she protested.

“See, that’s the thing. You didn’t have to. I needed to make those changes, and you were so steadfast in believing that I could. And you gave me somewhere to go when I needed it most.”

When he reached out, Leanne leaned into him, settling against his side with rising sweetness. He loves me back. He doesn’t want this to end either. Not content with only his arm around her, she also laced their fingers together.

“You were always amazing. It’s rare to find someone who is genuinely gentle and kind. And trust me, I’m aware you have a habit of swallowing your hurt, letting things go because you don’t want to upset people. Please don’t do that with me, sweetheart. We’ll argue sometimes, but coming to a compromise that suits us both will make us stronger in the long run. From now on, don’t keep the pain inside. Let me share it.”

Sighing softly, he rubbed his cheek against her hair. “I’m not opposed. It’s just that there hasn’t been anyone for so long that I kinda forgot how it’s meant to be.”

“We’ll figure it out.”

Just then, Leanne’s phone rang—a call from Danica. She answered and said, “You’re on speaker. What’s up?”

“Oh my God, did you already tell Trevor?” Danica sounded breathless, changes already echoing through her life.

This was the right move.

Leanne laughed. “I sure did. Why?”

Her friend’s voice came across equal measures amused and irate. “Because Titus claims he already knew! I’m adding him to the call, just a sec.”

Soon, Titus said “Hello?” like he wasn’t sure who all was involved in this chat.

Leanne said hey, as did Trev, then Danica moved forward. “Seriously, I call bullshit. You didn’t know anything! I wassocareful.”

Titus startled Leanne by chuckling uncontrollably. Finally, he settled enough to respond. “Honey, your shop is the cleanest in the world. There’s never any oil or dust oranysign that mechanical objects have been taken apart. Your hands are pristine. Hell, half the time, you even have a manicure, and you didn’t even bring a toolbox the day you repaired my oven. How does that make sense for someone who supposedly fixes machines?”

“He has a point,” Trev said.

Though the other two couldn’t see her, Leanne nodded. “So does it change anything?” she asked, hoping she wasn’t about to witness Danica’s relationship falling apart.

“Not for me,” Titus said swiftly. “I’ll keep my mouth shut until the official stance changes. I guess it’s nice that she can stop hiding her…witchy stuff when I come over, though.”

“I did wonder why Leanne has a locked drawer in the bedroom,” Trev admitted.

She shot him an apologetic look. “You can look at it now. It’s just spell components. If you’re interested, I’ll show you how I do the glamour later.”

“Tonight, I’d rather do something else,” he whispered.

Not quiet enough, though.

“Okay, hanging up now,” Danica said hastily.

“Good talk,” Titus called. “And welcome to the modern world.”

Once they hung up, Leanne kissed Trev delicately on the chin, nuzzling her face against his with all the adoration she’d been hiding. “Thank you.”

“For what?”

“For loving me.”

He tasted her lips like there was no sweeter flavor. “That’s not something I could stop even if I wanted to, Butterfly. So I’ll just thank you in turn.”
