She kissed him back with everything she had, caressing his back and shoulders, wanting to become part of him beyond this mingling of breaths. Panting, Gavin broke the kiss and ran his mouth downward to suck the side of her neck, nearly hard enough to bruise. Clem squirmed, moaning his name. The dual sensations spiraled through her, creating an ache that might never be sated. It’s not enough. But it has to be, right?
Because for them, there might not be a tomorrow.

Gavin left rosy marks on her neck, moving to her shoulders.
Her breasts were beautiful, soft and full, spilling slightly to the sides. He kissed first one tip then the other, sucking each nipple into his mouth. Clem twisted beneath him, not trying to get away but to touch more of him, and pleasure spilled through him.
This longing had teeth, gnawing toward his center. His magic crackled to life, sparking off hers, and it tingled all the way to the back of his head, adding a layer of bliss to the ferocious yearning.
Her eyes snapped open as she registered the shifting energy, but she didn’t try to reel it in. Instead, she tapped into the electrical wiring and created a bubble of light around the room. Gavin sensed the magic release as he pushed into her hot, welcoming body, just as the silver light shimmered around them.
She arched up and urged him on with her whole body, kissing and licking every inch of him she could reach. Gavin shuddered against her, struggling to contain magic he barely knew what to do with. It streamed out of him in ragged bursts, spilling around them like fireworks. With each release, another pulse of pleasure rolled over them, until sex and magic mingled in a superlative loop. His mouth, her fingers—she pressed two of them past his lips, fucking his mouth as he slowly rocked within her, gradually stoking their mutual excitement to an incredible flash point.
Gavin pulled up her up by the hips, and she locked her legs around his waist. Deep, harder, deeper still. It had never been like this; he could feel her blood racing through his body, her heartbeat thudding in his chest, and her breath blooming in his lungs.
He gathered her into his arms, his body curved over hers, and experiencedeverything. For an incredible moment, he understood what it was to be Clementine Waterhouse, joined to her whole being, as magic streamed between them unchecked.
It was too much.
He came, or she did.
Gavin had no clue how much time passed between the time the orgasm rocked him head to toe and his head went blank like an old TV screen. When he came to himself again, he was curled around Clem in a sweaty tangle, and she was gently petting his back.
“Is that normal?” he asked.
“In what sense?”
“The spell you cast. The way that felt. Any of it, really. I have so many questions.”
“I cast the spell because I was afraid you’d spike and lead the other team back here before we’re ready for them. The wiring will muffle the energy output since your place isn’t warded properly.” Here, she paused, her expression thoughtful. “Though if this turns out as we hope, we can adjust our wards. Right now, they’re to protect us from detection from hunters. It would be nice to cast them only for regular threats.”
“How does that work?” he asked.
“What?”
“A ward against normal danger.”
“It would just deter the mundane from messing with that place. If they have firm bad intentions, it means they’d pick another house.”
“There’s so much to learn,” he said in a wondering tone. “When you cast the other spell, there was a great deal more preparation, but this one you popped on the fly. Can you—”
“Explain how that works?” she guessed. At his nod, she went on, “Think of this way. Spells that require a lot of details also require more preparation and finesse. The one I just crafted is literally me building a box barrier using the room’s wiring. I’m using connections already in place to do something more basic, so it doesn’t take as much prep. But at the same time, it burns more energy, so it’s more efficient to prepare properly for any casting. Just…sometimes life happens, and you have to respond.”
“Like a reciprocal magic circle during sex?” Gavin wanted to ask if that had ever happened to her before, but he also didn’t want to know the answer in case it had.
Even if it was wrong, he’d choose to believe it was special and rare, something that seldom happened even among witches. She stirred against his chest, tracing down his stomach, and his whole body reacted to the sensation. Gavin caught her hand and kissed her fingertips. If we have only tonight, let me revel in her properly.
I always knew this was temporary. Even if things hadn’t ended like this, it would have ended. That’s not in question.
But I’m not ready to let her go.
Reflexively, Gavin gathered her closer and grazed her temple with his lips. She angled her face up, requesting a fuller caress, and he obliged, pouring all his tenderness into the kiss. He dotted smaller kisses on her lower lip, her chin, her cheeks, and her forehead, then he drew back to memorize her face.
Pointed chin, broad cheekbones, liquid brown eyes fringed in thick lashes, and a naked mouth swollen from his kisses. Her hair was tumbled from his fingers, and he didn’t think a lifetime of looking at her could ever be enough.
“Why do you look so sad?” she asked.
