“Did it make you feel filthy?”

“Yes. And I loved it.” Titus groaned, pushing into her deep and hard. “I can’t stop. You feel too good. I’m coming.”

When his climax filled her with heat, she came too, a soft little flutter that wrung the last of her energy. Danica went boneless beneath him, stroking his spine in languid motions while their heart rates settled. She brushed his hair back and cuddled him until he got self-conscious about his weight and rolled to his side, snuggling her against him.

“I feel like I should say something profound, but my head is so fuzzy,” he whispered.

“You’re saying I blew your mind.”

“No question.”

Titus made a genuinely happy sound, and she could tell he was about to drift off. Gently, she ran her fingers through his hair and caressed every part of him that she could reach, marveling at how beautiful they were together. He had been right to worry about the sheets, as there would be major damage in the morning. She shifted out of the wet spot and waited for the fear to set in. Only…it didn’t.

Nothing had changed. She just loved him enough to accept the prospect of losing her magic. Because life without him was a bleak, lusterless existence anyway. No spell could replace him; there was no better partner waiting for her anywhere in the world.

If she had to choose, it would be Titus, every time.

It was just as well that Titus and Danica already had mind-blowing makeup sex.

In the morning, everything was chaotic, and he needed the endorphins to tide him over. They managed to wash the sheets on the DL and said goodbye to Susan amid sniffles on both sides. Traveling home was harried, as Danica had forgotten to book a return ticket. They managed to upgrade Maya to business, and that freed a seat for Danica in coach. Titus got the aisle, Lucy preferred window, and Danica snuggled against Titus’s side, content at being in the middle.

This is incredible.

Normally Titus hated flying, but with Danica next to him, the hours breezed by. After collecting Lucy’s stuff, he paused at the ATM and then led the way to the parking garage and did some fancy Tetris-style packing to fit all their stuff in the car. In St. Claire, he needed to focus on getting Lucy settled, and that would take a few days. Luckily, Danica understood that, and she didn’t press when he dropped her off at home with a quick kiss.

Maya and Lucy had been dozing in the back seat. As he returned to the Leaf, Lucy asked, “Are we there yet?”

“She’s been saving that since we landed.” Maya pointed toward the other side of town. “About fifteen minutes more. We live out in the country, no close neighbors.”

“Oh wow, that’s different. We always lived in apartments until Mom married Greg.” Lucy sat forward, checking out everything as they drove back through town and onto the county road that led home. “St. Claire really is cute. Is that your bakery?”

Titus answered without looking. “That’s it. You can come to work with Maya when you feel ready, once you’ve settled in.”

“Not with you?”

He laughed. “I leave at four in the morning.”

Lucy bit her lip with an expression of abject horror. “Seriously? Maybe I don’t want to be a baker after all.”

As he pulled into the driveway, he wondered what she’d think of the house. Judging by her bright smile, she liked it fine. Doris burst out of the front door, wagging her tail so hard that she almost fell over. Trev ambled out afterward, mellow as always.

“Right on schedule. Where’s my money?”

Titus laughed because he’d predicted this. Since Trev didn’t have an actual job, he never helped friends out of the kindness of his heart. And that was fine. Lately, Titus had needed his services more than ever.

“Here you go. Stopped at the airport ATM just for you.”

Trev put the money in his worn-out Avengers wallet without counting it. “Pleasure doing business with you.” He turned to Lucy, extending a hand. “I’m Trevor. You must be the famous Lucy Pike.”

Titus was a little surprised that Trev remembered Lucy’s whole name, but she seemed happy about it. Hopefully not in an inappropriate crush way since Trevor was twice her age, even if he acted like a college student.Oh crap, are these Dad feelings? Do I have to worry about every person Lucy talks to from now on?Titus shot an anxious look at Maya, but her laughing eyes told him not to freak.

“I’m famous? Since when?”

“Since I helped—”

“Shut it, Trevor.” He landed an elbow to silence his friend. They’d done such a good job of keeping the room reno a surprise. No screwups at the last minute.
