I studied him, cocking my head to the side. “Depends on what kind of muffins they are.”
“A cranberry orange and a blueberry one.”
I smiled. “I think you are officially my new best friend. I love cranberry orange.”
“But not blueberry?”
I reached for the bag. “Yeah, I love those too.”
“Good.” He hesitated for a moment. “You don’t mind that I stopped over to see you this morning, do you?”
“No, why would I?”
He shrugged. “I just didn’t want to bother you if you’d rather I didn’t.”
“I’m glad you stopped by, Lee,” I told him.
“Good. Well, I have to go; my partner is waiting for me.” He turned to leave. “Go take a shower.”
“How do I do that without getting my leg wet?”
“Wrap it in Saran Wrap and keep your leg out of the stream of water the best you can. When you get out, wash the area with alcohol; it will dry off anything wet around your stitches.”
“You are a wealth of knowledge. I never would have thought of doing that. It’s like having my own private doctor.”
He grinned, and his eyes slid from my face to my waist and back up, and I wondered what he was thinking.
“I’ll talk to you later, Roxy. Enjoy your breakfast and your shower.”
“Thanks, Lee. I’m glad you stopped by.”
He studied me for a minute. “Yeah, I am too. Bye, Roxanne.”
“Bye, Lee.”
He turned to leave and must have seen my pile of debris. “Um, did you have an accident?”
I gnawed on my bottom lip. “Target practice didn’t go over so well.”
He chuckled. “I’m glad it wasn’t me you were throwing that at. Where is your dustpan? I’ll get it out of the way so that you don’t cut your foot. I think you have enough injuries right now.”
“You don’t have to do that.”
He smirked my way. “Are you going to bend down and get it?”
I shook my head. “It’s beside the fridge.”
He made quick work of the mess. “Hope it wasn’t a favorite.”
“Actually, it was. It was my wolf mug. I have had it for years.”
He chuckled. “That’s ironic that you say that. My mom asked me if I got her a wolf for her birthday.”
“She likes wolves?”
He shrugged. “I guess she does. I never knew that, but she said she secretly had wanted one for years. Who knew.”
He put the dustpan and broom away and then said goodbye again.
