“No, I’m going to live my life, but I’m going to do it in a more public way. Our breed needs to know that I’m there for them, that I amoneof them.”

“But you’re not.”

“I am.” I stressed quickly. “They need to see it and believe it. It might also help bring Portage out of the woodwork. What if we can get him to come forward? What if we can bring him to us instead of searching for him? Wouldn’t that be better?”

“But we would lose the element of surprise.” Henry commented.

“What element of surprise? The man is a ghost. No matter what we do to find him, we can’t. It’s been eighteen years. Eighteen long fucking years that we have searched for that son of a bitch. It’s time that I stop hiding from him and make him come to me. When he killed Alex, he said that he would come for me, well I don’t know about you all, but I tired of waiting. If we could get to him, take him out, we could bring the factions back together. We could strengthen our race so that we could fight against whatever the humans are concocting.”

The room was silent for a few moments as they looked among themselves. I had no doubt that they were discussing it, but I gave them the privacy in which to do so. Finally, it was Clayton who spoke.

“I have to agree with Kristin. I think this might draw Portage out.”

“I can see the idea has merit.” Scarlett commented. “I agree that we should try, but you can’t do what you did tonight and run off on your own. You need to remain with your sentinels.”

I nodded, “I shall. I will make sure to never leave here without Joshua at my side, and at least four others.”

“Six.” Clayton stated, and Hazel echoed the number in agreement.

“Fine, six. That means I will be with no less than seven people when I leave this building. Josh and Angelina will remain at my sides, five others will be brought along.”

“What is it that you plan to do first?” Beckett asked with a frown.

I grinned as I stood up, “I’m going dancing.”

“What?” Beckett barked. “You can’t go out to a club?”

“Why not? There is a club that Angelina goes to rather often, it’s only for the breed, a few human consorts, but it should be safe, and they know her—and more important, she knows the place well. What better way to get the word out than to be someplace public where our breed is relaxed and happy while I hang out with my sister? Besides, it’s been a long time since I let down my hair and had a good time.”

I walked out before any of them could respond, but I didn’t miss the smirk on Clayton’s face, nor the wistful look on Scarlett’s. If this worked out, maybe I’d take her with me sometime. She didn’t seem as stuffy as the others did.

“Well?” Lorna asked, her brow lifted in question as I stepped out of the room.

I waited until we were in the elevator, and then glanced around, “Make sure that you are all ready to go at midnight tomorrow.”

“Where?” Ryker asked.

I grinned at the back of the elevator door, “We’re going clubbing.”

Chapter 14 – Zander

Iwas lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, waiting for Laura to get out of the bathroom when my phone rang. “Speaker,” I spoke aloud, and the phone answered with a click.

“Zander here.”
