Kristin spoke softly, “Many years ago, my name was Calista, her name was Anastasia. She was actually my daughter and we were killed, but not staked. We came back as twins.”

Hugh’s jaw hung open, and his mind was in so much turmoil that I couldn’t even try to comprehend it.“I think his brain is going to explode.”I whispered into Kristin’s head and saw her lips twitch.

“I know this is a lot to take in, Hugh.” My sister said, “The fact that you are a reborn, might be why you feel so drawn to me.”

“Do you think so?” He asked still looking like someone had just pulled the rug out from under him.

“That also explains why you were smoky the last time you were with him.” I stated to my sister.

“Smoky?” He asked.

“Ah, your scent is very smoky, but not like fire smoke, more like barbeque flavored.” Kristin responded.

Cameron turned to Kris, “You haven’t fed from him before?”

“No, I almost did the last time.”

“That’s why he threw out his bonding scent then.”

“Jesus, you guys are blowing my fucking mind right now. Bonding scents and reborn blood. Reincarnation isnota real thing.”

“It is in our world, but there are very few that are known about.” Cam told him. “We find one occasionally, but not often. That is why Kristin is so important to our race. She and her sister are incredibly strong.”

“You would be incredibly strong, Hugh.” Kristin said softly. “If you decided to transition.”

“How long do I have?”

“Until your fortieth birthday, minus a day or two, we think. Males of our species who do not turn never live to see a week past forty, some have gone a few days early.”

He stared at us, one by one, “You guys are serious?”

“Yes,” Kristin said and then turned to me. “Why don’t you guys give us a little while to talk alone?”

“Sounds like a good idea. It’s going to take him time to digest it all.” Cameron stood and held out his hand, “And if you need someone else to talk to, let me know. I’d be happy to help you.”

Hugh stood and shook his hand, but didn’t say anything, and Cameron and I quietly left. Without saying a word, we went into my place and sat down. Cameron started laughing, “Well, I think I know who Kristin should mate with now.”

“You aren’t suggesting she mate with Hugh? If he transitions, he’ll be a toddler.”

“Do you remember how when you and Kristin came together, how your powers flourished and strengthen? You two were so strong together, especially if Julian was around to assist. Can you imagine what a mated reborn couple could do?”

I leaned back in my seat, to be honest, I’d never even considered it. “I’m not sure I could picture that.”

Cameron laughed again, “I’m not sure I can either, but damn I’d love to see what happens.”
