“Like you said, I should think about it. Thanks Bull, it’s been nice to talking to you.”
“Likewise.”
“Hope it works out with Lily,” she adds.
“Me too.”
Slash is going down. Dumb little bitch, if she only knew the truth. Ha!
Snatch and Psycho are grinning, and it looks juicy. I can’t worry about Lily right now. I have to see what they’re talking about. “What do you have there?” I say when I get over to them.
“It’s that cunty Sheriff Hunter on tape with the Savages. Check this shit out,” Snatch says, shaking his head. Lara ain’t too fond of me, and her icy blue eyes are peeling the layers off my back. If I had my way, I would snatch her right from under Snatch for sport, but I’m going to let Snatch keep his spoils from the war.
Snatch hands over the phone so I can check into it. It’s a crystal-clear picture, to my surprise. Sheriff Hunter is talking to the president of the Outlaws outside the stash house. There’s a briefcase in his hands and a clear exchange of goods. A brown duffel bag. The dumb clown president takes the product out of the bag, bringing it out into the open. He holds it up to the nearby streetlight. Coke and fentanyl in small clear plastic baggies.Bad fucking move.A real amateur player’s move. I chuckle out loud, watching Serenity’s finest fuck themselves over.
“You see him hold up the bag like that? Right in the middle of the street? This Sheriff is too cocky for his own good,” I sneer, delighted with the quality and crispness of the footage. I’m going to have to give Lily a serious dicking down after this for all her good work.
“Yeah. He’s not even trying to hide the shit. That’s the same thing I thought,” Snatch says as I clap my hand on his shoulder.
“He must have been doing it awhile, and running with the cartel because he looks comfortable,” Psych observes.
“He won’t be comfortable when I send it to him. Lily gave me his direct line the other night, so I got this bitch’s balls in my hands.”
“Looks like we do,” Psych agrees, slapping hands with me.
“Let me send the Sheriff a nice little MP3 to get a taste.”
I push send on the two-minute clip, shooting through to the Sheriff. I grin deviously, hoping his colleagues are around him in the office. I wait just long enough to make sure they’ve seen it. Then my fat fingers glide over the keys with an obvious message:Back the fuck off, otherwise this video goes to the media and the district attorney. The reply is almost immediate.
SHERIFF: OK! DO NOT SEND! No trouble going forward.
It’s so quiet in the corner, all of them are waiting to hear what the outcome is.
“What did he say? Did you send it to him?” Snatch asks, rubbing his bald head with agitation.
“Sure did. He’s a smart man, after all. He said there will not be any trouble anymore.” I hand the phone back, putting the evidence in front of Snatch and Psych’s faces for them to see.
A couple of new prospects we’re testing see the exchange, admiration in their eyes. They’re the next generation of the club and ones I can mold to my standards and do my dirty laundry. They have stars in their eyes when they look at me and it’s the right blend for manipulation.
“Now that’s how you take care of business!” they crowed. I sting Slash with an evil glare. The boys whistle, and the prospects clap at the victory. It’s a hollow one for me, though, because the genuine victory is still on its way. Another stone has been placed on the path, however, and when I get that seat, I’m going to dominate.
Slash has the nerve to challenge me with a mean mug, spitting on the floor. The bitch is worse than a petulant child, and I sneer back, wanting to humiliate him by asking if he wants a baby bottle, bib, and a blanket.
Chapter Eight : People Change
Lily
I couldn’t stand to look at Bull. If I had to stand there acknowledging his presence, it meant I would admit that I’d slept with a man twice my age, who’d wanted to pimp me out of information.
Fiona slides into the booth with me. I wanted to be alone, but I was glad to see her face. She knew my story and her warmth and friendliness made me feel right at home.
“Hey girl. That was crazy. What did you hear to make you go off like that? Sounds shitty, my god.”
I try not to cry, because I feel like the biggest fool. I steady myself, exhaling a deep sigh.
“I thought that me and Bull might have had a connection. I shouldn’t have done it and its way out of pocket for me. For me to be here in the first place is reckless because I work for the police department.”
“Don’t worry about it, it’s nothing.” Fiona pats my hand. “We all come from different backgrounds here and we’re not judging you. I come from a place you don’t even wanna know about. I’m still recovering from it.”
