She shakes her head, those waves falling around over her bare shoulders. It’s only then I realize she’s not wearing nearly enough clothing for my liking.

“I can’t. You don’t understand. I stole the car. I stole everything! I’m going to jail.” Olivia covers her mouth with her hands and spins around, giving me her back. “Oh god. What have I done?”

Well shit, baby girl.

Not quite as innocent as you look, are you?

I think I underestimated her.

But still, an armed robbery is no place for my little angel to be.

I give a nod to my second, Paul, and scoop Olivia up into my arms. “Finish this,” I tell him as we walk out the door.

It’s almost dark outside.

“What the hell were you thinking coming here? Do you know how dangerous this place gets at night?” I stare down at her.

She does a double-take and then furrows her heavy blonde eyebrows. “I… Well, I was fine until you walked in. What is this?”

I put her down next to Rossi’s Merc and hold my hand out, gesturing for her to give me the keys.

She fishes in her handbag and eventually pulls them out.

After opening the passenger door for her, I get in myself only to find the backseat loaded with various electrical appliances. “You planning on going into business?” I ask her.

Now I’m the one raising my eyebrow.

Olivia meets my gaze for a second and then looks out of the window. At least she’s meeting my gaze now.

She swallows and squishes her hands between her knees. It’s the most adorable thing I think I’ve ever witnessed. “I know it’s wrong. They left. They left me with nothing—not even last month’s pay. I have a grandma and she’s sick. I have nowhere to live. No money for food. I have—”

“Shh.” I cut her off, reaching over to squeeze her bare thigh.

She looks down at my hand, and I quickly remove it.

Which I regret instantly.

I wish I didn’t have to remove it. It’s hard to remember that even though she’s been mine for the best part of a year, Olivia doesn’t know that.

Despite the lines I’ve crossed recently, I’m still practically a stranger to her.

“Don’t worry about any of that shit. You think I would see you out on the streets? Not a chance.”

Olivia turns her head up toward me, opening her mouth as if she’s about to say something. She quickly closes it again and goes back to looking out of the window.

She’s probably in shock.

It’s not every day you get accosted at gunpoint and turned into a hostage in an armed robbery.

Especially when you’ve just carried out a robbery of your own.

I chuckle to myself as I start the car and pull away from the shop.

I wonder what else I’ve misjudged about my little angel?
