Kristin took another deep breath, causing Sam to laugh.

“This weekend?” Sam gave her a side eye.

“Yes. We would have to miss Calculus tomorrow.”

“Calculus is at 8 a.m. We would leave before eight in the morning?” That didn’t sound very logical. “Wait…no, I can’t. I’m working a double shift this weekend. All day Saturday and one shift Sunday.”

“No, you’re not,” Kristin countered.

“Yes, I am.” Sam reached out to grab her calendar sitting on her desk. She needed to make sure she was correct, especially after that fiasco with her course schedule. The exact fiasco she had yet to tell Kristin about.

“Sam.” Kristin placed her hand on top of Sam’s, halting her from picking up the calendar. “You don’t have to work this weekend. I know because your boss said you didn’t have to.”

“What?”

“Callum said he could get your shifts covered if you wanted to go.”

“Kristin.” The name was a warning on her lips.

She wasn’t sure how she felt about them planning this behind her back.

“Please come with us. I don’t want to leave you here all weekend by yourself.”

Sam thought about it for a moment. She didn’t want to be alone. Not after everything that recently happened.

“Can we at least leaveafterCalculus tomorrow?”

“No. We will have to miss calc tomorrow because we are leaving tonight.”

“Tonight?” Sam looked at her clock. “It’s already almost 5 p.m. When would we leave?”

“In an hour? Maybe thirty minutes?”

Sam wanted to scream. Instead, she started to laugh.“You have got to be kidding me, right? I can’t pack and get ready to leave in thirty minutes.”

“Yes, you can. I have already packed my bag and you know I packed enough for both of us, anyway. Shove your toiletries in a bag, grab some underwear and a bathing suit, and you’ll be ready well before they get here to pick us up.” Kristin paused to look Sam up and down. “Unless you keep stalling.”

“You already told them we were coming, didn’t you?”

“Maybe,” Kristin said as she got up from Sam’s bed and walked over to her closet.

“Fuck. Fine. Throw me that bag.” Sam pointed to the top shelf. “Start pulling out whatever you think I need to take.”Kristin jumped up and down in excitement like a child going to an amusement park.

They spent most of the next half hour deciding what Sam should and should not take. Most of Kristin’s picks left little to the imagination and Sam quickly shot her down.

Sam had just made it downstairs and slung her bag onto the couch when she was startled by loud banging on the front door. She took a deep breath, knowing who was most likely on the other side, and slowly opened the door. Callum and Micah were both leaning on opposite posts on the front porch.

Micah’s face was the picture of excitement, Callum just looked apprehensive. She could tell he wasn't sure if she had agreed to go or not.

She took a deep breath, building up the anticipation. “I hear we’re going to Charleston for the weekend?”

Callum’s eyebrows peaked and his aggravatingly beautiful smile suddenly covered his entire face, but before he could say a word, Micah jumped in.

“Are you telling me Samantha Williams has agreed to join us?”

“Apparently, my boss is letting me take the weekend off, so why not?” Her gaze drifted to Callum, whose excitement was on full display.

“You must have an amazing boss,” Callum observed.
