“Why couldn’t you talk to her?” Micah chimed in as they pulled into the parking lot.
Kristin was still a mess of tears and frantic movements as if she still didn’t believe what she had been told. “I don’t know. Amanda said she was still really out of it from whatever drug she had in her system and didn’t know what was going on when they left her in the ambulance. They are meeting us at the hospital with her purse and stuff.”
“What about him?” Micah questioned.
“He was arrested.”
Callum sighed in relief.
His only regret in hearing that was that he would have to wait till Christian was bonded out before he could kill him.
“Callum.” His name was a warning on Micah’s lips. “Don’t go there.” He snapped his head up to find Micah in the rearview mirror staring him down.
Callum furrowed his brow. “What?”
“I know what you are thinking. You aren’t going to kill him. It sounds like he got caught and he will have to pay for it, okay? Don’t do something stupid and get yourself locked up as well.”
When they pulled up to the hospital, they parked and made it inside in record time.
“Sam. Samantha Williams. Where is she?” Callum all but yelled at the receptionist behind the desk.
He needed to get back there. He needed to be with her.
The woman didn’t even blink at his outburst. Apparently, this kind of frantic behavior was fairly normal in the emergency room.
“Give me one moment,” she said as she walked to the back.
That moment felt like a lifetime.
He paced the floor and then counted the thirty-seven black tiles that lined the checkered design of the walls. When the woman still wasn’t back at that point, he counted the lights in the ceiling; twenty-one. He had to keep his mind busy or else he would punch something.
“She is here, but I’ll need to see your ID’s.”
They all frantically began yanking out their licenses and handing them over.
“I’m sorry. None of you are listed on the emergency contact form from the university.”
“What?” Callum wanted to scream. “I’m her boyfriend! I need to be in there,” he stated at the same time Kristin yelled something about being her best friend. He was going to tear this whole hospital down if he couldn’t see Sam soon. He had to make sure she was okay.
“I’m sorry, sir. Hospital policy is to only allow emergency contacts until the patient is able to state otherwise.”
Callum furrowed his brow and his heart just about stopped as it hit him.
“She can’t talk?”
“I can’t release any information, I'm sorry.”
It was then that Micah finally chimed in. “Who is the contact?”
“Someone by the name of Christian Phillips.”
Callum’s eyes went wide and he punched the counter top.
He was pretty sure that punch caused a sprain, if not a mild break. The pain lanced upward, but he didn’t even flinch.
“Well, sorry, but that asshole is currently in jail for assaulting her, so he isn’t coming!”Callum screamed out. The woman flinched and then waved over a security guard as Callum started pacing the floor, his hands fisted into his hair.
Micah threw up his hands as he turned to the guard. “I’m taking him outside. I’m going to get him to calm down.” It was a plea, and thankfully the guard stopped his forward movements. The last thing they needed was Callum placed in a cell beside Christian. “Kristin. Do whatever–”
