After walking to the cancer wing, I find Gloria. “Where’s Dr. Lexington?”
“He’s in with a patient,” she responds.
I smile, “I’ll wait if that’s okay.”
“Of course,” she says, “It’s good to see you.”
She makes small talk as I scroll through my phone. But really, I only have one thing on my mind.
Liam comes to the nurse’s desk, and my heart starts rapidly firing.
“Mercy, why are you here?”
I look down, “I need to talk to you.”
“Is Ivy, okay?” He sounds panicked.
“She’s fine. Can we talk for a minute?”
“I’m sure it can wait until later tonight,” he says dryly.
“It really can’t.”
He runs his hand through his hair, “Fine. Follow me to the consultation room.”
I do and say, “The on-call rooms are closer.”
“Yeah, I don’t like being in them anymore.”
He opens the door and waves me in.
After closing the door, he says, “What do you need?”
“You,” I said.
“Mercy. What are you doing?” He says as I wrap my arms around him.
“Javier called me.”
“He what?”
“He asked me to come in, and he showed me the file on Stephanie and Shane.”
“Shane?” He asks.
“He asked her to do it.”
I stand on my toes and pull his head down and lick his lips, he groans.
“I’m so mad at you,” he says.
“Kiss me, anyway.”
I press my lips to his, and at first, he doesn’t respond, he’s fighting it. I know damn well he wants to kiss me back.
When I bite his bottom lip, he loses the fight.
He pulls my hair aggressively and plunges his tongue into my mouth as he growls. Fuck, I love that growl.
