Chapter 17
Kincaid~
The sound of a phone ringing woke me up, and as soon as my ears picked up on the sound, I knew that it wasn’t my phone. Fox grumbling and searching for his phone in the dark was also another indication that it wasn’t my phone.
I repositioned myself on the bed and did my best to try to go back to sleep. Fox and I had attacked each other for hours before we’d finally fallen asleep from overexertion. It was probably still early, but I didn’t care. Two showers and a thousand orgasm later, I was ready to sleep until tomorrow.
“What’s up?” Fox asked sleepily as I felt him move around the bed. “No, it’s fine….no, Joshua, I-”
My attempt at falling back asleep quickly went south, but I didn’t say anything. Joshua was Fox’s best friend, and with the way that I felt about Saxton, there was no way I was going to begrudge Joshua a phone conversation just because I’d been fucked an inch within my life and needed rest now.
“Joshua, it’s fine…seriously.” Fox let out a tired sigh. “We’re fine. In fact, she’s here with me now. No…I-” I could feel Fox falling back on the bed. “It’s not necess-okay. Fine.” I felt Fox’s arm fall cross my back, the glow from his phone’s screen glaring in my face. “Joshua wants to talk to you.”
I grabbed the phone. “Yeah?” It sounded rude, but I wasn’t trying to be. I was tired, is all.
“Hey, Kincaid,” he mumbled quietly.
“Hey, Joshua,” I replied, then did my best to sound like a decent human being. “Long time.”
“Yeah, it has been,” he agreed, still mumbling like he was in trouble or something, and maybe he thought he was. “Look, I just wanted to tell you that the girl-”
“Joshua, it’s fine,” I quickly interrupted him. “Honestly, Fox-”
“No, it’s not fine,” he objected. “See, she’s friends with my girl, and…well, unless I tell Marley to stop being friends with her, I thought it’d be best to clear the air.”
I let out a deep sigh, rest no longer an option. “Josh-”
“She took down all the pictures and even posted an apology,” he continued. “She didn’t know Fox had a girlfriend, and she sure as hell didn’t know that you were his girlfriend.” I guess my reputation really was a doozy. “Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that we’re all very sorry for the misunderstanding.”
“It’s fine, Josh,” I told him, finally sitting up. “Seriously. There are no hard feelings on my end, though you’ll have to talk to Fox about his.”
“Yeah, okay,” he said, going back to grumbling. “As long as you guys are good, that’s all that matters.”
“We are,” I assured him. “He wouldn’t be in my bed if we weren’t.”
He chuckled at that. “True,” he agreed. “So, on that note, I’ll let you guys get back to…uh, hanging out.”
I laughed, wide awake now. “Thanks, Joshua. For everything.”
“You’re welcome, Kincaid.” He hung up, and it never even occurred to me to ask if he wanted to talk to Fox some more.
Handing the phone back over to Fox, he was sitting up, too. “Sorry about that.”
“It’s fine. His heart is in the right place,” I told him. “He loves you. He just wants to make sure you’re happy.”
Fox set his phone back on the nightstand, then wrapped his arm around my waist, hauling me across his body. “I am happy.”
It was wrong to want to have sex again. While I was certain that Fox would be more than willing to assist me in that regard, we had to find a way to manage our addition to one another. Just because we were finally on the same page, that didn’t mean that what we had was healthy. Fox was the only place where I found true happiness, and it was addicting. The only time I wasn’t thinking about Apollo was when Fox was buried deep inside of me. He made the pain go away, and he had no idea what that did for me.
“Do you know what my plans were for tonight before you showed up?”
Fox pushed a strand of hair behind my ear. “No, what?”
“I was going to break into Donovan’s hotel room,” I admitted, and his entire body stilled.
“What?”
“Alexander confessed,” I told him. “He told me everything.”
