“Twenty years is a long time to chase after some—”

I clapped my mouth shut at a glare from the vampyre.

“The coven has already come too close to comfort. You’ll have to leave.” I insisted.

The wolf looked uneasy, as he well should.

Aggie put her head in her hands, blinking back tears. Her voice was a tired, despondent whisper. “I don’t want to leave my home.”

Karl frowned. I bet he figured he could maintain a life on the run. That was probably how most vampyres existed anyway. The wolf was already nodding, ready to agree to anything Aggie wanted. I admitted the wolf would be handy to have in a fight, and the vampyre could essentially outrun anyone except other vampyres. Or a Fallen.

I shivered, not even wanting to consider it.

From the limited amount I knew about Aggie though, I didn’t think she’d take a life on the run well. Hell, I barely tolerated it.

“I think you’re all missing the most basic solution,” I offered, strutting forward to poke my nose back in the conversation.

They all glanced up at me, their expressions ranging from hopeful to condescending.

“And what’s that?” Karl demanded, his eyes narrowing.

I gave him a carefree smile and focused my attention on Aggie.

“The demon can’t enforce shit if she voids her end of the contract first.”

Her eyes widened, understanding immediately. I gave the witch my most smoldering look.

“I volunteer for this noble cause.”

THWACK.

Pain exploded in my face and my eyes watered, blood running through my fingers as I immediately pinched my nose to stem the flow. Fuck, nose injuries hurt. Her two bodyguards knocked me down as well, and I was forced to conjure a shimmering shield around myself as they advanced.

“It was a fucking joke!” I yelled at them, wincing as I popped my nose back into place. I focused inwards on my magick, summoning the energy to heal the rest of the bruising.

“My virginity is never a joke,” Aggie hissed, cradling her hand to her chest. I held out my hands in surrender.

“Alright, I’m sorry. You’re right. It was a horrible thing to say. I’m sorry.”

Aggie sniffed and looked away, but the other two didn’t look convinced. Thankfully, I didn’t give a shit about them. No one helped me up from the ground, but I was fine with that.

“So, that’s off the table. Now what?”

Aggie glanced up,her voice strong despite the tears shimmering in her eyes. “I didn’t say it was off the table. Just that it was off the table with you.”

The other two stiffened at that, and I tried to let the insult roll off of me. Damn.

“Aggie, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. The last thing we’d ever want is to force you into something—”

She held up her hands as the two idiots babbled over each like lovesick fools. I was glad I’d never had the misfortune to fall in love. Jesus.

“I think it’s the best idea we’ve got, but it won’t stop him from coming after me. If anything, it’s likely to let everyone know exactly where I am. Then he’ll come for revenge.”

Well, Aggie was certainly smart. That’s exactly what I’d do if I was a rampaging sex demon.

“Ok,” I said. “So the question becomes would you rather have more or less power when he inevitably finds you?”

The wolf had the audacity to growl at me. I flared my shield in my palms in case I needed it.
