Luka
I was used to being a mindless monster on the full moon. During the day, the constant nagging of my inner wolf to find my mate could be pushed away. When the moon was at its peak, the nagging turned into vicious rage.
That was why I had asked—alright, begged—the vamp to keep Aggie away. I didn’t want her to see me like that, and I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself if I ever hurt her.
Then the oddest thing happened.
I was in the woods, biting myself and anything else I could get my jaws on. My human mind was tucked far away; all I felt were the mindless instincts of the wolf.
Until her scent and magick reached me.
It was like the fog cleared from my mind. Her presence was a cool breeze that blew back the raging fires of my wolf’s presence. Holy shit, I could think, and I was still in my wolf form on the full moon. I was shaking.
I ran toward her, knowing this was proof that Aggie was mine. It had to be, right? I snarled in frustration as the scent of decay came next, then I remembered I had asked the vamp to make sure she stayed safe.
That didn’t mean he had to suck her face off, though.
I howled, running toward her and delighting in the ability to run on the full moon under my own power. She saw me and smiled, unafraid even as the vamp eyed me with mistrust.
I lowered my head to the ground, wanting Aggie to be sure that I was safe. Her hand softly brushed the fur on my snout, and I could have died happily then. Her magick made her hair swirl around her as if caught in the wind, her beauty eclipsing the moon itself.
Aggie was a goddess.
Then she took off, and the race was on. After a beat even the vampyre joined in, and it was the best full moon of my entire life. The euphoria was addicting … or perhaps it was the thrill of Aggie’s magick connecting with my wolf. Regardless, I wasn’t totally able to control what happened next.
I tackled her, pinning her small body under mine. Usually I wished to be in my wolf form, but what I wouldn’t give to have my own body trapping her to ground so I could—
The vamp made a choked sound as I shifted back to my human form, naked and still lying on top of Aggie.
“What the—” Karl stuttered.
“You’re naked!” Aggie laughed.
The vamp was shrieking like an old woman, and I was still too much in shock to say anything. Aggie was laughing hysterically, so I focused on her.Being able to control my shifting on a full moon? Aggie was totally my mate.
“Your turn.”Aggie demanded.
She pulled my head down to hers, and I surrendered completely. The vamp may have been screeching again, but he’d already had his turn. Besides, how could I care about anything other than the soft lips on mine, or the heat of Aggie’s core grinding against my pelvis?
Aggie threw her head back, and I mean, what was I supposed to do? Ignore the pale column of her throat just dangling in front of me? I leaned in, scraping my teeth against the smoothness of her neck. I could feel her heartbeat under her skin, thrumming wildly. Then she groaned, and the vamp was yelling again.
“Why don’t you just shut up and join us?”
Aggie shot one arm out and pulled Karl down to her side, kissing him intensely. Well, at least that shut him up. I turned my attention back to her throat, nudging her legs apart with my knees. She automatically complied, one hand around Karl’s neck, the other running down the planes of my chest.
“Good girl,” I rasped into her ear, and she melted against me. My breath caught as the overwhelming urge to claim her slammed into my body. I pushed it away, and focused on the hazy, lust-filled gaze she cast at me.
“You’re very naked,” she purred, and I smirked against the corners of her lips. Her hands slid down my back and caressed my backside, stretching my control into a very thin, fragile line.
“Karl,” I managed, my voice rough and animalistic. My hands covered with fur, and I viciously shoved down my wolf as it roared back at me, indignant that I wasn’t claiming our mate. She was right there!
“KARL!”
My wolf form exploded forth and Karl was there, rolling himself over Aggie to put his own body between her and me. I snarled, saliva dripping from my teeth as all I saw was a challenge to my mate.
“Wait!”
Aggie tried to push Karl off of her, but she might as well have tried to move a mountain.
“GET OFF!”
I roared in agony as a bolt of pain shot through my back, and then everything went black.
