“I was hoping that you would help me get cleaned up,” he whispers against my ear.

He trails kisses down my neck and I shiver in his hold. Even five years later, Amos still does it for me. He still can’t keep his hands off of me, which is probably why we’re about to welcome our third kid in just five years.

His hands go to my bump and I smile as he runs his palms gently over it.

“How’s the baby?” he asks me as we hear the water turn on in the bathroom down the hall.

“Hungry.”

“We can’t have that,” he says, and I grin.

“Go get cleaned up so that we can eat.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Amos heads upstairs to our bedroom, and I head down the hall to the kids’ bathroom. For some reason, they love the one down here, even though it’s farthest from their room.

“Alright, who is going first?” I ask the kids and Milo shoots his hand up.

Ella is busy playing with a Barbie doll that she left lying in the hall, so she’s too preoccupied to answer me. I help Milo get out of his wet clothes and into the shower. He lets me shampoo his hair and when he’s rinsing off, I grab a clean towel.

Amos and I got married exactly a month after we met. The house was done, and we ended up having a small ceremony on the beach behind it. It was just us, his parents, and some friends that we had met in town, but that was alright with us.

My parents were too busy with a case to get time off, and I wasn’t surprised. We barely have any contact with them, though they do still send gifts for the kids on their birthday and Christmas.

We found out that we were pregnant while we were on our honeymoon. I had promptly started freaking out. I mean, we didn’t have the house set up, and I was still getting my business in order. How could I handle being pregnant and a mom on top of all of that?

Amos had promised that it would all be okay though, and I believed him. He was right too. My pregnancy with Milo was a breeze. No morning sickness and I was barely even tired.

It was a different story with Ella. I could barely keep anything down for the first trimester and was so tired that I was struggling to finish editing projects by their deadlines. Once we had Ella, I ended up taking a few months off. I wanted to adjust to being a family of four and bond with the new baby.

I’ve been back in full force since then though. This pregnancy is our last and lucky for me, it’s been another easy one.

My company has only grown in the last five years, and I’ve never been happier. I get to do what I love every day, but what’s better is that I get to pick and choose who I work with. No more horror novels that end up giving me nightmares. Instead, I focus mainly on romance now.

The house that Amos had built before we met is perfect. It’s right on the water and a bit secluded so we have privacy. We’re only a five-minute drive from downtown Maple Bend, but we tend to walk everywhere.

“Alright, Ella. Your turn, baby.”

She runs over to me as I finish bundling Milo up.

“Walk up the stairs,” I tell him and he nods, taking off down the hall. I relax when I see Amos come down the last few steps and grab him.

Ella smiles up at me as I help her get undressed and my heart melts. Both kids got their features from their dad, although Milo has my blue eyes. Ella looks just like her dad though with her black hair and bright green eyes.

“Margherita’s?” Amos asks me a few minutes later when I carry Ella upstairs.

“Sure.”

“Can we walk there?” Milo asks, and I smile.

“Sure.”

I help Ella get dressed and ten minutes later, we’re out the door. Amos takes my hand in his as we make our way down the sidewalk and I smile, tilting my face up to the setting sun.

If you would have told me five years ago that I would be married to some guy that looked like he was a male model or that I would have two kids with him, I would have laughed in your face. I never thought that I would get a family like this. I never thought that I would find anyone who makes me feel the way that Amos does.

Luckily for me, we booked the same cabin. Even luckier, he challenged me to that first game.

Amos and I still play games and as I turn to smile at him, I can see it in his eyes. He’s got another game in mind for us tonight, and I grin.

Game on.
