“Hey, babe.”

I’m once again interrupted, except this time it’s not by Wilder, and I look up to see who Deke is callingbabe. It certainly can’t be anyone at this table. He’s staring right at me, with this look in his eye that has the hairs along the back of my neck lifting. I immediately want him to stop.

“What the fuck do you want?” Hadley snaps.

It gets even worse when he leans forward, pressing his palms against the table in front of me. His close proximity makes me uncomfortable, and I shift back slightly, staring at him with wary confusion.

His gaze drops from my face, and I notice it linger on my chest. I glance down in a panic, thinking I must have missed a button—or three—when I got dressed this morning, but nope, all my buttons are in their rightful places. The thin cotton isn’t nearly enough of a barrier between my body and his leering gaze, and even though I’m fully dressed, I have this itching need to cover myself up.

“I don’t know how I didn’t see it before.”

I lift my head to look at him once again. “See what?” I honestly have no idea what the fuck he’s talking about, but if engaging with him will get him to leave me alone faster, then fine.

“How fucking hot you are.”

Eh, what now.I can feel the heat on my cheeks, and I have no idea how to respond to that. Other than to tell him to fuck off, but I don’t think that would go down well.

“I’m willing to overlook the whole scholarship thing, if you’ll come to this week's party with me.”

“You fu—” Hadley begins, but Wilder’s sudden burst of movement as he jumps to his feet cuts her off. My gaze darts to where he’s now looming on my other side, and I can see the unadulterated fury in his eyes.Okay, so maybe some things do faze him.

“Get.The.Fuck.Away.From.Her.” His voice is a deep growl, at least an octave or two lower than his normal voice, and his eyes are practically spitting poison at Deke. It seems like a complete over-reaction. Sure, I wanted him to go away, but he doesn’t need to go all possessed demon on the dude to get him to fuck off.

Unfortunately, despite the Wilder volcano that looks like it’s imminently about to erupt, Deke doesn’t back off. Not until Hadley snaps out, “You heard him. Get the fuck out of here.”

Of course, he doesn’t leave without winking at me first, an action that is anything but enticing on his sleazy face. “I’ll catch you another time...when your guard dogs aren’t around.”

Wilder glares daggers into his back until Deke leaves the dining hall, and only then does he sit back down. “Where the fuck does he get off?”

My eyes bounce back and forth between them. “What the hell just happened?” I mutter, trying to figure out what Deke wanted, and why...and most worryingly, what he meant when he said he’d talk to me again, when neither Hadley or Wilder were around.

Chapter 6

“I can’t believe in a few weeks we’ll be all done with Pac Prep.” I frown, feeling like the end of the year is just rushing toward us now. “I haven’t done anything except study for the last four years.”

“What are you talking about?” Hadley asks. She, Wilder and I are sitting in the dining hall, grabbing a late night coffee and enjoying a bit of down time while we catch up. Hadley has had so much going on recently, I feel like we get so little time together, so it’s nice to make the most of the little pockets of time we do have. “You’ve done things. We’ve gone to several parties this year, and the dance.”

“Yeah, but I haven’t done anything exciting. Nothing reckless or impulsive.”

The look on Hadley’s face is comical. “Ehh, what about at Hawk’s birthday party? You know…” She trails off, flicking her gaze to Wilder, not wanting to mention anything in front of him.

“Oooh, do tell,” he purrs, waggling his brows.

“I guess,” I shrug, “but that was ages ago, and I didn’t even go all the way.”

“Oh come on,” Wilder whines, pouting like a child. “I wanna know!”

Hadley looks at me with a raised brow, and I roll my eyes, but nod anyway, giving her the go ahead to tell him.

She smirks. “Emilia nearly had a threesome with two guys from Death on a Matchstick.”

Wilder’s jaw drops in shock and he slowly turns to face me. He stares at me for so long, it’s like he’s seeing me for the first time.

“What do you mean,nearly?”

I chuck a chip at him. “I’m not sharing the details with you, asshole.”

“It doesn’t matter if you didn’t go all the way, it’s still more ballsy than most of the girls in this school.”
