“I do too, but the bedrooms are on the opposite end from the master bedroom. I don’t want our child so far away from us.”

“You’re absolutely adorable. You know that?”

I chuckled, gazing out at the ocean. “Nope. Can’t say I’ve ever been called adorable.” We were back to our playful selves. I loved it. All it took was the truth and two days of reconnecting.

“Well, you are. And if you want to shop for a new house, you have my approval. Not that you need it or anything…” Her voice trailed.

“Miranda, I do need your approval. We’re doing this together. We’re a team. Parents. And very soon, we’ll be husband and wife.”

She laughed again. “Did I miss your proposal?”

“Kind of, actually.”

She gasped. “What?”

“The day I returned from Vegas, I’d planned to propose to you. I’d bought wine, flowers, and brownies.”

“Aww, really? That sounds wonderful.” I heard the sadness in her voice. I never wanted her to be sad again.

“Hey, it’s okay, baby. I can do it all over again the next time I see you. I want to marry you and spend the rest of my life loving you. I just hope you say yes.”

“Oh, I’ll say yes, promise. And don’t go to any trouble for me. Just ask the question. That’s all I want.”

“You’re not any trouble, M.” This woman. She was the sweetest, most caring and loving woman I knew. Trouble? Never in a million years.

“I love you, Will. Please be careful. We need you.”

My heart squeezed. “I’ll be careful. You do the same. I need both my girls safe, so don’t give Norris a hard time. Let him do his job, M. Your safety is his and the other guys’ top priority.”

She sighed. “I just don’t know them.”

“I know. But Axel trusts them, and I trust Axel.”

“Fine. I won’t be a pain in the butt. I just want to come home.”

“Soon, baby, very soon.”

“Well, just so you know. I’m already packing stuff.”

“That’s good. It’ll keep you busy. Give you something to look forward to. Did you give your notice at Radiance?”

“Yes. Nina was terrific about it.”

“I’m glad, baby. She can begin looking for a replacement for you.”

“Yup. Just give the word and I’ll get in my Subaru and drive.”

I laughed, rocking in my chair. “M, baby, you’re not driving home. I’ll come in the jet for you. You don’t need that car. We’ll get rid of it and buy you a new car.”

“Aw. I was just getting used to it. But you know what?”

“What?”

“I’ll give it to Brea. She needs a car.”

“That sounds perfect.”

Axel entered my office and tapped on his watch. That was my cue to wrap up the phone call with Miranda and get ready for what I hoped was my last time having to act.
