Staying in bed with Ciara sounds like a much better idea, the wolf inside of him prompted. It wasn't helpful in the slightest. He needed Ciara safe first and foremost, and with Varg at large and the full moon only days away, he needed…
"What are you focusing so hard on?" Ciara interrupted his thoughts.
She walked over to the coffee pot and filled a cup. She was wearing one of his flannel shirts and nothing else. Tor's brain hazed.
"We need to find Varg," he said, shaking all his horny thoughts away. Well, notallof them, but it couldn't be helped. She really was stunning, especially when sleep mussed, his scent all over her.
"You want to go back to Uppsala?" Ciara asked, sitting down at the counter and watching him cook.
"At this stage, it's our only lead." Tor caught her staring at his ass, and she only smiled a sphinx smile. He willed his dick not to get hard. He was only in a pair of sweatpants and having an erection while cooking was a bad idea.
"I'm going to need some more clothes. The rate I'm going through them at the moment is crazy," Ciara complained.
"There was a bag of your gear left on the patio this morning," Tor said and pointed to where it was in the lounge room.
"They dropped it and ran?" Ciara guessed. She frowned. "Wow, they really think we are mating."
We are. You just don't know it,Tor thought unhelpfully.
"The wolves go into a mating frenzy. They get overprotective of their mates and territory, and it's best to leave them be," he explained instead.
Ciara's grin widened. "Mating frenzy, is it?"
"Stop it, seriously, or I'm going to fuck you again," Tor warned her and placed a plate of steak, eggs, mushrooms, and tomato in front of her.
Ciara's eyes widened. "I don't think I can eat all of this."
"Try. You didn't eat dinner last night, and you expended a lot of energy. Your body needs the protein," Tor replied, passing her a knife and fork.
"Are you fussing over me?"
"Yes. I'm allowed to. Now, eat," he insisted irritably.
Ciara had a mouthful of eggs, and something settled inside of him. His stupid wolf instincts were all over the place, and he needed to make sure he was providing for her in any way that he could. The whole thing was a mess, especially because she didn't want to mate him. Not yet.
Tor started eating too, and his thoughts stopped racing so fast. He didn't feel the need to fill the silence, and neither did she. It was comfortable. As much as they argued and she tried to boss him around, theywereeasy together.
Tor's thoughts were starting to get mushy when his phone started to ring loudly. He found it and was surprised to see it was Von calling him.
"Hey, what are you doing awake at this hour?" Tor answered and put the phone on speaker.
"I was getting into bed, and I got an email from my friend Siegfried," Von replied. He sounded wired, and Tor could just about see him bouncing up and down.
"The Fenris expert?" Ciara asked.
"Lady Ironwood is there too? Why am I not surprised?" Von chuckled. "But yes, Siegfried is the expert. He looked through some of his more esoteric copies of the Binding of Fenris for us."
Tor swallowed his mouthful of breakfast. "Find anything? We were going to head back to Uppsala."
"He found a line that said that once the great wolf was bound, Odin All-Father, buried him in the deepest place in all the lands of the North, a cave of pure darkness, and surrounded him with water," Von replied.
Tor clicked his tongue. "Odin really wasn't fucking about."
"He never did. It's why he was such a fearsome enemy to have."
Ciara had pulled out her phone and was tapping away. "So that reference of the deepest place in the North, I'm assuming, is Northern Europe, yeah?"
"It's an obvious assumption to have. Why, what are you thinking, Ironwood?" Von asked.
