They had secured Hafgan's head in the same dark cells that Morrigan was dying in. He had cursed right up until Arawan had sewed his mouth shut before locking his head in an obsidian box and sealing it with magic.

Arawan had gathered up a tired, swaying Imogen and flown to where Hafgan's spell had dumped the castle.

Imogen had quickly left Arawan to sort out the details and calm down his court. She would happily step in and help him fight against every enemy…except a frantic courtier. He was on his own.

She had climbed into his massive bathtub and passed out shortly after. She woke long enough for Arawan to pull her out of it, dry her off and place her into bed.

Imogen knew something had happened to her. It hadn't been the usual pain of when Arawan had healed her the other times. Something was wrong. She was just too tired to figure out what.

When Imogen woke again, it was to Arawan kissing up her bare shoulder. His long body was wrapped around her, enclosing her in warmth and safety.

"Hey, how long have I been asleep?" she murmured, reaching for him and snuggling into his chest and dragon blood scent.

"Not long, about two days," he whispered.

Imogen jolted in wakefulness. "Two days?"

"Shh, it's fine. You were exhausted, and we did two world crossovers in the time span of a few days," Arawan said, stroking her hair to try and calm her down.

Imogen wriggled out of his arms. "I need a second."

She grabbed the robe that someone had laid for her and went into the bathroom. She washed her face and was brushing her teeth when she actually looked at herself for the first time since the fight.

"What the hell…" Imogen leaned closer to the mirror. She looked remarkably refreshed and good. Sheneverlooked that good in the morning. It took her a moment to realize what was wrong; her gray eyes now had black flecks in them. Imogen spat out her toothpaste and charged back into the bedroom.

"What the fuck did you do to me?" she demanded.

Arawan was lying back on the pillows with his arm tucked under his head. It was like he knew she was going to be in a mood and had arranged himself to look as hot as possible.

"I healed you," he replied.

"Whatelse? Don't make me beat it out of you."

Arawan stretched a little, making all the muscles in his chest ripple. "Come and try if you're so confident."

"Yeah, if memory serves, it was me that defeated Hafgan, so I think I can take you."

Arawan snorted. "I had that fight completely under control. I needed to get close to him to finish him off, and before I could, you charged in. Reckless as ever."

"You were taking too long, and I'm sorry I wasn't okay with him carving up your pretty face."

Arawan crooked a finger at her. "My pretty face wants to thank you, so come and sit on it."

Imogen flushed hot all over. "Talking dirty to me won't work this time. Tell me what you did to me."

"Come here, Imogen, and I will tell you," he purred.

Imogen moved closer to the bed with the intention of staying out of it. It didn't work. As soon as she was close enough, Arawan moved god quick, dragging her back onto the black linens and pinning her underneath him.

Imogen hated that she wasn't strong enough to shove him off. Instead, her legs parted to make room for his muscular body.

"Tell me, I need to know," she said softly.

"I shared my power with you." Arawan brushed her hair from her face. "You were dying, the back of your skull smashed in. I couldn't live without you, and I refused to let you go. So I gave you part of my essence and…and immortality."

"Are you fucking serious?" Imogen's body tried to move, but he kept her pinned. "Let me up."

"No, not until you accept this." Arawan grabbed her arms and pressed them into the mattress above her head. "I don't know why you are mad."
