"And Rhiannon's?"
"No one really knew except for her. It was an heirloom of her house. She said it had been made by…"
"Gofannon," Arawan finished, staring at the armor.
"Yes, how did you know?"
"The smith god's work is unmistakable. It is humming with his power too. He created his own mixtures of metals and infused them with magic, so there's no way to know what that's made of." Arawan looked it over again. "Gofannon could make a sword out of a widow's tears and a butterflies wing if he wanted to. It is something to be treasured, prince."
"I know it is. They both are, but you are both family, and the fight you are walking into will affect all of us," Killian replied. He looked at Imogen. "You will wear my mother's armor."
"Kill, I can't—"
"No arguments. You really think I'm going to send my baby sister into Annwn with only Kevlar and some daggers?" Killian said, putting his hands on his hips. "Rhiannon would come back from the dead just to box my ears if I even thought about it."
Imogen hugged him tightly. "Thanks, Kill. Are you sure Kian and Bayn will be okay with it too?"
"Are you kidding me? Bayn has given you some of his favorite daggers, and Kian was the one that suggested offering you the armor to begin with."
"You guys are then best fae brothers a girl could ask for," Imogen said against his chest. She pulled back and studied the armor. "Now, show me how to get it on."
Imogen had never worn plate armor before, but it molded perfectly to her body over the top of her hunting suit. It had to be magic because there was no way Rhiannon had been a plus-size woman.
"You look like a total badass," Bron said to Imogen, looking her over.
"Sheisa total badass," Arawan corrected. He was looking at her in a very different way.
"Aren't you putting yours on?" Imogen asked him, ignoring the horny gleam in his eyes.
"I will when we get to the gates. Killian said the quickest way to get there is to fly, so I will need to shift."
"Really? Where are these gates?"
Killian led them out of the crypt and back out into the garden. He turned and pointed at the highest mountain behind them.
"It's there, in a cave close to the summit. I found it by pure accident. No one crosses that part of the mountain because the legends say it's cursed," he explained. "I was coming back from a journey in the north when I was flying over them and felt the gates' magic. It surprised me so much I went to investigate. And once I found them, I flew home as fast as I fucking could because I was so freaked out."
"Awesome. They sound cool," Imogen said, eyes going wide with excitement. "Can we go now?"
Killian shook his head. "You are crazy to want to go at night, but I suppose with Arawan with you, it will keep all the monsters away."
Imogen turned to Bron. "Are you going to fly up with us?"
"Absolutely not," Kill answered before Bron could.
"What Killian means is that my wings aren't strong enough yet to get to that altitude. Not because I'm afraid to go," Bron corrected.
"I'mafraid to go. Just because Imogen is crazy enough not to be scared doesn't mean I'm going to risk taking you there," Killian argued.
Imogen shook her head at them before hugging Bron. "Wish me luck, big sis."
"You don't need it, but youdoneed this." Bron pulled out a long, black knife that was big enough to be a short sword from the inside of her coat. "This was Kynan's dagger. It was made at the same time as the god killing sword. I'm hoping it will be just as effective as the sword was on Morrigan."
"I don't know what to say," Imogen pulled the dagger from its sheath and whistled. "Oh yeah, I'm going to do so much damage to someone with this."
"I hope so. We'll keep the sword close in case Hafgan decides to cross over to the human world," Killian said. He didn't need to add that if Arawan and Imogen failed, the black sword on Bron's back was probably the only weapon in existence that could stop Hafgan.
"I feel like it's an early Christmas," Imogen said, buckling the weapon onto her belt. "Let's get going. I'm pumped for a fight."
