She wanted to talk to someone about it, but it wasn't something she felt she could open up about. There was no good way to say, 'so I got fucked by a monster death god in the middle of a burning battlefield, and he not only ripped out a dark truth from the depths of my heart, but I also realized I'm in love with him.'

"You are going to need so much therapy after this," Imogen told her reflection. She didn't have time for it, so she did what she did best and shoved all of her emotions into a box and tossed it into the dark ether of her mind.

Imogen pulled on her leather jacket and ax holster, keeping it full-sized and strapped to her back. She wasn't going to be dumb enough to not look like a threat.

Imogen's phone buzzed to tell her Bayn and Freya had arrived. Imogen looked at herself in the mirror one last time. She looked like a hunter.

"This is who you are. Not someone who falls in love with someone you can't be with," she told her reflection. The Imogen in the mirror didn't look like she believed her for a second.

Bayn and Freya were both a combination of pissed off and concerned. Imogen had sent warriors to let them in through the wards and was waiting by the front entrance for them.

Freya looked amazing, dressed in a suit and a dark blue satin top. Bayn, being Bayn, was dressed like Imogen in jeans and a leather jacket.

"You look ready to put your ax in someone's head," he said with a sharp grin.

"That's what happens when I get woken up too early," Imogen replied, bumping fists with him. "I'll leave looking pretty to Freya."

Freya laughed. "Well, one of us has to look professional. I must say you look positively glowing today."

"It's called the post-battle high," Imogen replied, ignoring the insinuation.

Bayn rolled his eyes. "Come on, let's get this over with."

Arawan was coming down the stairs when they stepped back inside. Damn, he lookedsofine in a black suit. Imogen wanted to giggle with glee and rub herself all over him.

"Try to look less obvious," Freya murmured.

Imogen grinned. "Not possible."

"Thank you for coming on such short notice," Arawan greeted them.

"We are happy to be here, my lord," Bayn replied. He and Freya bowed politely, which made Imogen snicker. Arawan only shook his head at her.

"Do try and act like I'm the boss in front of Hafgan's people, darling," he said, pinching her chin on the way past.

"I'll behave," she replied, not sounding the least bit sincere. "Unless they deserve an ax to the face."

"Envoy's usually come under a peace agreement, so no axes unless they break the convention first," Arawan replied.

Imogen let out a pained sigh. "You used to be cool."

Arawan made a scoffing sound. "Obey me, mortal, or suffer the consequences."

"Yeah, okay." Imogen waggled her eyebrows at him.

Arawan's expression heated. "Keep back chatting me and see what it gets you. Come along." He walked away, leaving Imogen staring at his fine, fine ass.

Bayn and Freya had their mouths open, looking concerned and amused at the same time.

"For fucks sake, Imogen. Really?" Bayn grumbled at her.

"What did I do?" she asked.

Bayn only shook his head at her and took Freya's hand. "Killian is never going to shut up when he hears about this."

"I think it's adorable in a terrifying kind of way," Freya said.
