Gabe nodded, but Leo continued to glower.
“I mean it. You can’t be a father to your son if you’re in prison for murder.” My throat tightened at the thought.
Leo’s expression softened. “I’m not going anywhere, sweetheart.”
But you didn’t say you wouldn’t resort to violence.
I opened my mouth to protest, but Gabe interrupted. “Maybe it’s time the two of you got out of town. Go to Sicily for Christmas. Leave as soon as possible. In the meantime, talk to Marco about more security.”
I hated the idea of leaving New Orleans, and Sicily was no longer my first choice of destinations. However, bringing Marco into the mix would take Leo a step closer to the mob. “Let’s go to Florida. We can leave tonight.”
Leo smiled for the first time since he’d returned from fishing, but it faded just as quickly as it’d come. “As much as I’d love that, running away is prolonging the inevitable. We have to catch this guy.”
Gabe frowned. “There’s another problem to consider. You two suspect the stalker is a reporter. Do we need to worry about the images hitting the tabloids?”
I shot to my feet. “Oh God. I didn’t think about that.”
“That’s all we need. Another story in the paper.” Leo gave me a look that told me he’d seen the recent article or articles.
“I had nothing to do with the story about the break in, or the other—”
Leo narrowed his eyes. “There was a story about the break in?”
“I should go.” Gabe stood. “You two have things to discuss.”
“No, stay for just a moment. You’ve thought of things we’ve missed.” Besides that, I figured I’d save Leo the trouble of relaying the information later, and myself the need to call Maggie.
Frowning, he took his seat.
I settled beside Leo again. “Shanna told me about an article in the Picayune yesterday. Somehow the paparazzi found out about the stalker.”
Leo pressed his lips into a line, but he didn’t seem all that surprised. If anything, he seemed irritated.
I took his hand. “They’re hinting it’s you.”
Gabe cursed under his breath.
Leo tightened his grip on my fingers. “No mention of Harrison and Gunnar in that one?”
“No. My father told me Robert and Harry wrote that press release. He would have told me if they’d sent the other.”
Leo sucked in a breath. “I may have had something to do with the story about the break in.”
It was my turn to glower. “What did you do?”
“I offered the reporters outside double the going rate for any photos of the person who broke into your house.”
Gabe made a sound in his throat somewhere between a groan and a growl. “On that note, I am going to leave you two alone to work this out.”
Leo pushed to his feet and followed his brother to the door.
The two spoke in hushed tones, but I ignored them. I couldn’t handle one more thing. Once again, it seemed like the men in my life had lost their minds.
Leo returned to the sofa, only this time he sat across from me in the place Gabe had abandoned. “What happened with your father today?”
Pressing my fingers to my temples, I muttered, “I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Migraine? Do you need your meds?”
