“They’re on their way back to the villa.” He offered his hand.
I stood unassisted and wiped the sand from the seat of my pants. “They left without me?”
“That was Leo. I told him I would bring you back.” Enzo grabbed my hand and dragged me along.
I struggled to keep up. “Slow down.”
“I apologize, but I have to get back to the house. My father is ill.”
The air left my lungs as if he’d punched me in the stomach.
He opened the car door for me and leaned close. “Will you forgive me for canceling our dinner plans once again?”
“There’s nothing to forgive. Let’s go.”
