I spoke loud enough to be heard from the hall, but not too loud that it’d seem staged. “I didn’t mean to hurt you. Like I said before, I needed a few months to play the field…You know, to make sure. But I’m ready to marry you now.”
“Whoa there, Nelly. I have an entire grand proposal planned for us, and you’re spoiling it.”
“Okay. That’d be great. I can’t wait to see you.” I swallowed past the lump in my throat. “Thanks for being so understanding, Jack. I love you, too.”
The door opened behind me.
I turned and found Enzo staring. I’d expected anger, maybe some shouting, but nothing could have prepared me for his lost-little-boy expression.
Maybe I was wrong. Maybe I did make a rash decision.
