“He had a gun to your head. That wasn’t enough?”
Fox quirked an eyebrow at me. “I had him right where I wanted him.”
“Yeah, about to pull the trigger. Let’s get inside.”

EVA
We walkedup the stairs inside the large cabin, hauling whatever we had on us, which wasn’t much. I stepped aside as we got to the top, waiting for Cash to show me to my room. Since coming inside, we really hadn’t talked with Jones, and I was perfectly fine with that. I was tired of meeting so many new people.
He opened the door to my room and shut it behind us as I walked inside and looked around. The bed was big enough for two, but I didn’t know if Cash would be staying with me. Honestly, I wasn’t sure of anything between us right now. The way he spoke to me, promising me he would always be there with me and take care of me, made me think what we had wasn’t going away. I just wished I knew exactly what we had.
“Are you doing okay?” Cash asked for the first time since we left the government compound.
I turned around and faced him, giving him a smile. The truth was, I didn’t know. Everything was moving so fast, and every time we went to a new location, I met someone different. Normally, that would set me on edge, but being around Cash and his team had given me a sense of calm I didn’t normally have. I trusted them to keep me safe, even when we were in danger. It made me sad to think back to the day Art rescued me, and how he paid with his life. But I didn’t want to think about him right now.
“You know, as good as you can be when you’re on the run with a bum arm, taken captive by a government agency, and fired a gun for the first time with a man who likes to sing as he kills people.”
He walked forward, brushing his hand through my hair as he smiled at me. I couldn’t resist the urge to run my fingers over the laugh lines around his mouth, loving how his eyes lit up when he smiled. His smile slowly faded as his other hand skimmed across my waist, gripping my hip. I sucked in a breath as a shiver raced through my body at his touch. His thumb glided over my hip, barely slipping under my shirt and brushing across my skin.
I swallowed hard, craving more of his touch. My mind ran at a million miles an hour as I thought of all the ways he could touch me. His eyes drifted down to my lips for a moment, before returning to gaze into my own.
Something shifted in the air, and suddenly, I didn’t feel like laughing. Sexual tension had been heating up between us since we went on the run together, but we hadn’t had a moment to talk about it or even think of where this was going between us.
For too long, I had distanced myself from people, not wanting to get too close in case I got them caught up in my troubles. But Cash was standing beside me, refusing to let me push him away. I was attracted to him in a way I couldn’t explain. It made no sense. We’d barely spent time together, but when it came down to it, he was the one I wanted. Logic played no part in whatever was going on between us.
He leaned down and brushed his lips across mine, pulling me close to his muscular frame. Heat seared through me from just one touch. His kisses consumed me, but his large hand sliding over my body sent fire licking across my skin.
I wrapped my arm around his neck, gasping as he kissed me harder. The hard planes of his strong body felt odd under my touch. I couldn’t remember the last time anyone had claimed me like this, let alone held me close.
His hard length pressed against me through his pants. Desire swarmed through my body as I pulled him closer. I wasn’t a virgin, but I had never felt even an ounce of what I was feeling in this moment with him. He kept his distance from me, refusing to let go and unleash the caged animal inside him. Cash didn’t strike me as the kind of man who held back for anyone.
He suddenly broke the kiss and stepped back, his breaths coming out harsh as he stared at the ground. His knuckles turned white from how hard he gripped his hips to keep from coming at me. After everything I told him, he was worried about hurting me.
“We should go downstairs,” he muttered after clearing his throat.
But that was the exact opposite of what I wanted. After barely catching a glimpse of what it would be like between us, I wanted to explore more. I knew it was rude to stay up here, especially when we just arrived, but time was slipping away from me like sand through my fingers. I needed this with him, and I wasn’t about to let him walk away out of some sense of honor.
“I don’t want to.” I ran my fingertips up his arm, over the toned muscles that I longed to feel moving above me.
His gaze shot up to meet mine as I stepped into his body and brazenly ran my hand over his crotch. His eyes dilated as he hardened even more from my touch. Maybe I was just another girl to him. Maybe this was just sex, but I didn’t care. I’d held back for too long, refused to let anyone close to me. Now, all I wanted was him, even if it was only for this night.
“Eva, we should—”
“Stop being chivalrous,” I interrupted. “I’m a big girl, and I’ve been making my own decisions for a long time. I want this.”
He swallowed hard, his hand reaching out to brush the hair off my shoulders. “I don’t know what I can give you. I want…” His jaw hardened as he stared at me.
I knew what he was trying to say. His life was very different from mine. Even after all this was over, neither of us knew what would happen. He would go back to his life, but what would happen to me? The truth was, in this moment I didn’t care. I wanted to embrace life after the last few days. I could have died multiple times over, but he took care of me, protected me when I had no one else.
“It doesn’t matter,” I shook my head. “We could die tomorrow. I just want this one time with you.”
He didn’t let me say anything more as he crashed his lips down on mine, kissing me harder than he ever had before. He spun me around and tossed me down on the bed, climbing over my body as he sealed his lips over mine. His hand slid under my shirt, cupping my breast and squeezing gently. I groaned at the feel of a man’s hands on me. I spread my legs, allowing him to slip right between them. He rocked against me, his cock grinding against me in a way that sent pleasure rushing through me in a way I’d never felt before. And sadly enough, that was all it took to set me off. I sucked in a breath and cried out as he ground his erection against me, sending me into a tailspin of pleasure.
Tearing his lips from mine, he flicked the button on my pants and pulled them down, tossing them out of his way. Moments later, his own pants were gone and his long, thick cock bobbed before me. I sat up, wanting to touch him and taste him, but he shook his head and crawled back over me, careful not to injure my shoulder.
My hand slid up his arm as I drank in all the muscles and tattoos over his tanned skin. A bullet hung from a string around his neck, dangling just within reach. I vaguely remembered him giving it to me when I was high as a kite. He took it back from me when I woke up from my medicated induced haze. I knew it was important to him, so despite the fact that I wanted it hanging around my neck, I didn’t argue. I couldn’t tear my gaze from it, thinking of how he might have gotten it. Rae’s words momentarily rang through my head, but then his lips were on mine again and I forgot about everything else.
