“Shoot.”

I was locked outside on my own, wearing nothing but my pink pajamas.

Mommy was going to be so mad.

I turned to the side and saw Mr. Logan’s jeans on the driveway, just lying there on their own. I frowned and went to pick them up, holding them in my hands as more panic made my tummy turn over and over and over.

Why would Mr. Logan’s clothes be out here?

Had something happened?

Mommy wouldn’t leave me alone unless something had.

Were they in trouble?

But when a familiar cat circled my bare feet, and I looked down to see its tail curled against my leg, I lost my track of thought.

“It’s you!” I cried. “You’re the cat that’s always in Daddy’s tree.”

It didn’t respond, so I tried again.

“Have you seen my mom? Have you seen Mr. Logan, too?”

That cat was rude, and it never gave me an answer, so I bent down to pet it, thinking it might need a cuddle first.

The moment my fingers touched its fur, it ran away, heading to a tiny gap in the trees by the big gates Mommy said were there to keep us safe.

I ran after the cat, needing to talk to it. Needing to tell it that it was naughty and had no right to sit in those branches. Those were Daddy’s, and its butt didn’t belong there.

“Hey!” I called out. “Hey, you. Cat! Stop right there!”

I thought I’d almost caught it, too, but then it slipped through that tiny gap in the tree, leaving me to drop Mr. Logan’s pants before I dropped down onto all fours as I peered through it. This was as close as I’d ever been to the cat, and maybe Mommy and Logan were out there beyond the gates, too. Maybe that’s why they couldn’t hear me back here. Maybe they’d found that naughty animal and were waiting for me to scold it.

But that gap…

It looked so small.

“What would Daddy do?” I whispered. “He’d follow the cat. He loved adventures.”

So, that’s what I did. I crawled headfirst into the gap that was too small, hissing when the branches bit at my skin, scratching me like the cat probably wanted to. That didn’t stop me, though, because I was brave. I crawled, and I crawled like Daddy would have done, and when I finally made it out, I saw the cat, begging me to follow it.

And because I wanted to make Daddy proud, I did that, too.

Chapter46

LOGAN

Hannah was kissing her way down my stomach before I’d even opened my eyes, and then she kissed her way back up until her lips met mine, and she pressed her naked breasts to my chest, laying herself on top of me so I could wrap my arms around her and pull her closer.

“Interesting,” I said in a voice still tainted with sex and sleep.

“Hmm. What is?”

“Last night wasn’t a dream.”

I pressed my lips against her hair, desperate to take her again the way I’d taken her all night, unable to stop. Unable to care about either of us growing sore or weak as we exhausted our muscles and rode the waves of orgasm after orgasm.

“It was the realest thing I’ve ever felt,” she said, turning her head to kiss me, gifting me with a sleepy gaze that had me rolling us both over until I was the one on top of her.
