Page 119 of Whenever You Call

Despite Kate vowing she’d be long gone before Logan turned up at my place, there she sat on the patio furniture with another glass of wine in her hand, entertaining Bella and Liv with her tales of diva-like behavior from some of the models she worked with.

Bella hung off her every word, and Livia couldn’t help but grin like the Cheshire Cat whenever Kate was around. My friend had a unique way about her. One that made everyone feel grateful to be in her company. Nothing was ever too serious, not even the stuff that should have been.

When Logan finally texted me to tell me he was on his way, I made sure the gates were open, and I waited by the door like a lovesick puppy—one slightly buzzed from too much wine, glowing from the afternoon sun, and desperate to see the man she—

Don’t go there, Hannah,I thought, shaking it out of my head just before Logan’s Outback pulled into the driveway, leaving me to lock him in with us for the night once the electric gates had closed behind him.

As soon as he appeared down the pathway, wearing jeans and a black polo shirt, running a hand through his freshly washed hair, and wearing a smile that flashed his perfect teeth at me, I couldn’t wait a second longer.

I ran to him on bare feet, pushing off the paved pathway to jump into his arms as though he was a man returning from war. I’d become a giddy teen, unable to contain her raging hormones or need to be adored so openly.

Logan caught me with ease, his fingers curling into my ass cheeks as I wrapped my legs around his waist and hovered above him without a care in the world. I looked into his eyes for only a second before I kissed him hard.

I wasn’t sure whether it was the way he’d made me feel when he’d driven past us at lunch or the texts he’d been sending me ever since, promising me what he couldn’t wait to do once we were alone again, but tonight felt different somehow.

I wanted more of him—all he had to give, with no restraints.

“I’ve missed you,” I panted between kisses, earning a raspy groan from him that made my nipples harden. “You’re never allowed to leave me again, okay?”

“M’kay,” he mumbled.

“You’re staying here now, forever.”

“Who needs to work anyway?”

“Exactly.” I kissed him harder, aware of the heat growing between us.

I’d never had it like this, where the need to drop to the ground right there and then took over, making every animal instinct I’d ever tried to tame roar to life.

“How much wine have you had?” he asked, his lips bumping against mine.

“Just enough to make me happy. Not enough to stop me from wanting you.”

“Perfect.” He spun us, and my back met the cool wall of the house, causing me to gasp when the rough spots scratched at my skin.

Logan’s hips bucked, and he ground me against his erection. I wanted him more than I could explain.

We didn’t stop kissing. We couldn’t. Something wild had broken free within me… but then a shrill laugh from the backyard reached all the way over to us, and Logan stilled, slowly pulling his face back.

“What was that?” he asked with ragged breaths.

I ran my thumb over his swollen bottom lip. “Erm… that was Kate.”

“She’s here?”

I nodded.

“Oh.”

“We can trust her,” I assured him.

“I don’t doubt that.” Logan immediately dropped his forehead to mine. “But you’re gonna have to give me a minute before I meet her. I was damn near ready to take you right here, right now, Hannah,” he panted.

“Want to know a secret?” I kissed the tip of his nose. “I would have let you.”

Logan growled, and I laughed easily, uncurling my legs from around his waist and sliding down the front of him as carefully as I could. He grabbed hold of my hand, closed his eyes, and counted to himself until he was sure the very thing he needed to hide from everybody else had calmed down.

I loved the power I had over him, knowing I was enough. He made me feel like the most beautiful woman alive.
