“Dressed up, huh?” I could hear the smile in his voice. “What are you wearing?”

“Nice try, charmer. I’m not answering that.”

“He just asked you what you’re wearing, didn’t he?” Kate whispered opposite me, and it was my turn to wave her off, earning a chuckle of laughter.

“Okay, well at least tell me where you’re at,” Logan said.

“Why? Are you planning on stopping by for something to eat? I’m not sure your supervisor will approve of that.”

“I’ve never really liked this job much anyway.”

“Behave,” I chuckled. “But, to answer your question, we’re at BeverLiz Cafe.”

“The one on South Beverly Drive?”

“You know it?”

“I do.” His huff of laughter didn’t go unnoticed, and I was about to ask him what he found so funny, but he got to me first. “Anyway, I’d better go. Enjoy your lunch with Kate. I’m proud of you.”

Those four little words made my heart stutter because I knew how true they were. He would be proud of me for putting myself out there. He was every time he saw me growing stronger.

“Am I still okay to come round later?” he asked.

“You know you don’t have to ask anymore.”

“Doesn’t mean I’m going to stop.”

By the time we said our goodbyes and I turned back in my seat to look at Kate, she stared at me with wide eyes and a fork pressed against her lips.

“Bloody… hell…” she said in the most British accent she could muster. “You don’t even realize it, do you?”

“What?” I asked, unable to remove the smile from my face.

“Just how fucked up in love you really are.”

I was about to argue… again… when a single blip of a siren had us both turning our heads to the road, only to see an LAFD paramedic ambulance crawling down the lane toward us.

When Logan’s profile came into view from the passenger side, and I saw the way he had one arm hanging onto the handle above the window, showcasing that strong, tanned muscle beneath that tight, short-sleeved shirt, I forgot every single argument I’d been about to make to Kate.

The ambulance seemed to move in slow motion, and when Logan’s handsome eyes finally met mine, only for him to wink at me, I was done for. Every doubt or problem or obstacle I could conjure faded away to nothing, leaving only him to fill my senses.

Him and that damn wink.

Logan's chest bounced as he laughed to himself, no doubt seeing my stunned reaction and finding it oh so amusing. I never looked away as they drove on slowly, unable to stop myself from reaching up to clutch my heart as his face slowly disappeared, leaving me to stare at the back of the red vehicle with such longing as it drove away, I thought I might burst.

Almost instantly, my phone beeped in my purse, and I pulled it out to see Logan’s name there waiting for me.

Logan: You look sensational. I’m going to have fun peeling you out of those clothes tonight.

When I looked back up at Kate, her head was still turned in the opposite direction, her mouth hanging open as she watched the red truck drive away into the distance.

I knew how she felt.

“Okay. Enough,” she said, spinning back around in her seat and thumbing over her shoulder. “Where the hell do I get myself one ofthose?”
