The smile fell from her face, and she looked down again, cutting me off from those eyes I loved so much.
“Hannah? What is it?”
She trailed a finger along my stomach, moving it around in different patterns. “Nothing. Just a small moment of uncertainty creeping in. It’ll be gone in a minute.”
“About us?”
“Us,” she repeated. “There’s an us now.”
I froze beneath her, my hand coming to a halt on her arm as the dread of her having regrets crept in, making my gut perk up with a warning.
She must have felt the tension in my body because she looked up again, her eyes meeting mine. “I’m not regretting a moment of it, I swear. That was one of the best nights of my life, Logan, and it’s not even over yet.” She leaned on her elbow, bringing her face closer to mine, making me twist my head on the pillow. “I’m just adjusting. This is new to me.”
When I didn’t respond, she went back to drawing patterns on my skin, only this time on my chest, bringing those limp muscles slowly back to life.
“Cole was the only man I’d ever… you know…” She shrugged. “Slept with. Until now.”
My brows rose. “Are you serious?”
“Yes.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“What does it matter?” she asked, looking up at me.
“If it didn’t matter, you wouldn’t be thinking about it. You wouldn’t be adjusting. So, yeah. It matters.”
“I guess that’s fair,” she said softly. “There’s just been a lot of changes this year, and this thing between us… it’s the biggest one of all. I never expected someone new to come into my life, and not so soon after…” She didn’t need to finish that sentence. “I’m just taking a moment to center myself. Figure out how to play this out.”
“I’m willing to take this as slowly as you need to,” I ran my hand through her hair. “As long as this is what you want. That’s all that matters to me. That you forgive me for my past mistakes and that you trust me to protect our future.”
Her cheeks heated again, and she couldn’t hold back her smile. “I do. On both counts.”
It was all I needed to hear.
Cradling her face, I pulled her to me, and I kissed her as though it was the first time—as though it was the last. She fell into it, and soon our bodies were tangled again, with her wrapping herself around me until I’d turned us over, and she lay beneath me, the heat of her skin making me hard again.
“Trust me, Hannah,” I said between kisses. “You set the pace. I’ll follow.”
“Promise?”
Dropping my forehead to hers, I whispered, “I promise.”
Saying anything else would scare her away, and the only thing I cared about was her happiness. She didn’t need to know that after this, I’d struggle to hold back now. She’d opened a gate. Unleashed a fucking beast. One who’d never known what it felt to care for a woman while being inside her, and one who couldn’t get enough of the way that finally made him come alive after feeling as though something had been missing for far too long.
Soon enough, our kisses turned to touching, and she began to moan beneath my fingertips, once again. Every groan of arousal she pulled from me became a promise to give her whatever the hell she wanted, whenever she needed it. This time, the urgency had gone, leaving me to sink into her slowly and watch her every reaction—listen to her every soft curse that told me she loved it just as much as I did, and hope that maybe one day, she’d grow to love me, too.
The way I loved her now.
We wokethe next morning wrapped in each other’s arms.
It took a few seconds of adjusting to the daylight for me to see that everything I thought had been a dream had, in fact, been real. Hannah’s soft blonde hair tickled my chest, and I pressed my lips against it, enjoying the soft moan that escaped her.
“Morning,” I said groggily.
“Morning,” she whispered, making my already hard dick harder with just one word. It wasn’t what she said but the way she said it, and I had to subtly adjust myself beneath the sheets before I did something that would make her even sorer than she already was.
“Are you okay?” she asked quietly, looking back at me.
