“Woah, are you okay?” she asked, her green eyes wide.
“Yeah...sorry,” I said, forcing myself to calm down. “I wasn’t paying attention.”
“You look like you need to relax.”
“If only it was that easy,” I muttered, glancing around the lobby to make sure Scott wasn’t anywhere nearby. I didn’t want to see him right now.
“It is.” Summer smiled. “I was just about to head out to the hotel pool with a good book. Do you want to join me?”
“That sounds great,” I said, meaning it since I desperately needed some kind of distraction. “I’ll go get my swimsuit.”
I just hoped that Summer was right about relaxing. I needed it.
CHAPTER4
Scott
Ihad never been to a place like Pompeo Island before. There was salt in the air and everywhere I looked there was a brilliant blue sky and sandy beaches. I wanted to explore a little, so after eating my room service breakfast in my room, I headed downstairs. There were signs in the lobby, directing guests to the back entrance that would lead to the hotel pool and beyond that, the beach.
Walking out, I pulled my sunglasses over my eyes and paused next to a lazy river, looking around. There were people everywhere. Children took advantage of the slide that led to a shallow kiddie pool. There were people lined up at the snack stand for refreshing drinks and sandwiches. In the pool, a family played Marco Polo. Then, there were the lounge chairs. Men and women were laying out in the sun, their skin turning golden brown.
My eyes were immediately drawn to a familiar blonde on the other side of the main pool.Poppy. My entire body came to life, and I felt a pull in the center of my chest, like there was a magnet there. She was next to Summer, and as I stood in place, Poppy laughed at something Summer said, and I felt like I could hear the musical sound, even though I was too far away for that to be possible.
She shifted in the lounge chair so that she was laying on her side, her elbow bent as she propped up her head. She continued to talk to Summer as I allowed my eyes to travel over her sexy, curvy body.
God, I could practically see all of it in that little bikini she was wearing. She had an hourglass figure, the swell of her breasts and hips flared out while her waist was slim. I used to love tracing her curves with the palm of my hand. Her belly button was pierced and the sunlight glinted off of the metal and crystal embellishment.
Poppy was short, and I knew she was self-conscious about her height, but it took nothing away from her appearance. Those legs weren’t as long as she’d like, but they were toned and fit just right around my waist. Just the memory of that started to get me worked up, and my cock twitched in my pants.
I was so hungry for her, and the way she was laid out right now? It made her look like a feast I could devour.
On the tail end of that thought came the realization that I had absolutely no claim on Poppy anymore. It was an obvious truth, but hard to swallow because it meant that all the other men here were free to look at her with lust just like I did. What if she was approached by someone? I couldn’t stand the thought of another man with his hands on her.
Ben assured me that she hadn’t dated anyone else yet, but I knew that it was just a matter of time. A woman like Poppy wouldn’t stay single forever. She was too desirable. A sexy temptation with a bright personality.
So easy to fall in love with.
I couldn’t shake the feeling that this was my last opportunity to fix things with her. I had to get her back before she found happiness with someone else. I had six days left on this island, and in that time, I had to convince her to give me a second chance.
If she did, I would do anything to make sure that I never lost her again.
Someone brushed by me, and I realized that I had been standing out in the open ogling Poppy for way too long. If she saw me staring like this, it wouldn’t help convince her to take me back, that was for sure.
So, I continued on with my plan to head to the beach. I was wearing swim trunks and a white T-shirt, but I didn’t really intend to get into the water. I just wanted to feel the sand beneath my feet and get a little closer to the gentle rhythm of the water lapping at the shore.
I had just walked over a sand dune when I saw Faith and Michael coming in from the beach. Faith’s hair was wet and they were both covered in sand.
“You two go for a swim?” I asked as they stopped in front of me.
“Faith did,” Michael said. “I was too busy watching the guys riding the waves.”
He pointed and I followed the direction with my eyes. He was right, there were at least a half a dozen guys out on surfboards.
“Have you ever done anything like that?” I asked him.
It looked like a hell of a lot of fun, but I’d never even swam in the ocean, much less surfed.
“Oh yeah. At spring break about eight years ago. Why don’t you come out with me this evening and I can give you a lesson?”
