Giovanni
I had called my brother to check in with him around lunch only to find out that Fiona had Raven at the doctor’s office.
I asked repeatedly if Raven was okay and he said she had just been feeling under the weather the last few days. That everything would be fine.
It didn’t feel fine in my gut though so I wrapped up my business and got back to my brothers’ private plane at the airport as soon as I could.
A few hours later, we are landing just outside of White Summer.
“I told you she was fine.” Baratta mumbles as I step off the plane.
“I was ready to come back anyway.” I shrug, throwing my bag into his jeep and climbing in. “Where is she?”
“Back at the cabin now. Fiona dropped her off about an hour ago.”
“She told you what happened at the doctor?” I demand.
“No.” He’s quiet for a second longer than he should have been. Anyone else wouldn’t have noticed but since I’m his twin, I know him well enough to know that he’s lying.
I stare hard at him until he looks at me out of the corner of his eye.
“It’s her business to tell.” He growls low.
Knowing that he’s right and afraid that it's something really bad, I sigh deeply but sit back in my seat quietly thinking as we make our way back to Wolf’s Landing.
Pulling up to the cabin, I can make out Raven’s shadow through the window and climb out of the jeep, grabbing my bag.
Baratta pulls out of the driveway before I even get to the porch steps. I can hear music inside which must be why Raven didn’t come to the door when we pulled up.
Opening the door, the music is even louder and I walk further inside in search of her. Leaving my bag by the couch, I walk towards the kitchen and see her at the stove swaying to the music.
“You don’t look sick.” I say loudly over the music.
She jumps at the sound of my voice, the spoon in her hand flying through the air and landing on the floor.
“Jesus! Don’t sneak up on me like that!” She growls back before her face softens. “Who told you I was sick?”
“My brother mentioned that Fiona took you to the doctor. That you haven’t felt very well for several days.” I walk towards her slowly, looking over her features carefully and noting that she does look paler than usual.
“I’m fine. I didn’t know you were coming back today.” She looks away.
