Chapter 7

Raven

Giovanni went outside a while ago and hasn’t come back yet. Deciding to do the dishes before he returns, I run water into the sink.

I’m almost finished when I look out the window and spot him coming through the trees. I’m about to yell out the window to him when I see him fall to his knees.

My eyes widen at the sight but I stay quiet knowing something is wrong. Moving quickly over to the small pantry in the wall, I open the door then kneel down trying to quickly find where Fiona showed me to open the false bottom in case of emergencies.

Hearing a step on the porch, my finger finally finds the hidden latch and I pull it open quietly, I go down the small stairs softly pulling the latch closed above my head.

There’s not much room down here so it doesn’t take much feeling around to find the flashlight that Fiona said was at the bottom.

Turning it on, I see the tunnel that she said to head down. Taking a deep breath, I crawl through hoping that she is right and that it will not cave down on top of my head.

I get tired eventually but not wanting to take the risk that someone found the entrance behind me, I push on.

After a little longer, I think I finally see light shining in and hurry in that direction.

Stopping at the end, I slowly look out into the trees to be sure no one is out there before I climb out and head towards the river.

Fiona told me that once I make it to the river to keep straight across the fields until I come to a huge house with a barn. She said to ask for Hayden. That she would get in touch with Fiona.

Finally hearing the sound of water, I run faster, crossing the river quickly. I’m out of breath by the time I see a big barn and a house in the distance.

Making it around the barn, the people walking around pause at seeing me but I ignore them determined to get to the house.

Stepping up to the door, a man wearing a leather vest comes out of the door with a frown.

“Can I help you?” He asks, not moving from in front of the door.

“I need to speak to Hayden.” I say between gasping breaths.

“I’m Hayden.” A woman pokes her head out the door.

“Fiona said to only talk to you.” I look at her, not sure of the guy still blocking my path.

She seems to push him completely out of the way although with his size, I’m completely sure he let her.

“Blood, can you call your sister please? I’m going to take our friend here to wash up and get a cold drink of water.” She smiles at him, putting her arm around me and walking us inside.
