Chapter 3

Raven

“We need to try to leave today if you think you are up to it.” Gio says after breakfast.

Instead of letting him know that I was planning to broach the same subject, I quickly agree.

“I think that’s a good idea. Is there any way we cango to my apartment first?” I ask quickly.

“We really shouldn’t. It’s possible they have people watching your place.” He looks directly at me and I wonder just how much he currently knows.

We’ve not yet talked about anything specific. Both avoiding having to answer the really hard questions or rather just not wanting to reveal our secrets.

There’s something about Gio that tells me that whatever my wildest imagination can come up with as to who he really is doesn’t come anywhere close to the truth.

“My cat. She’s still at the apartment, locked inside. Please, I can’t leave her behind.” I beg, feeling tears prick my eyes at the thought of leaving her. She’s the first pet I’ve ever owned.

“Fine. I’ll go while you stay here though.” His voice sounds harsh but I smile at him anyway.

“Thank you.” My own voice filled with gratitude.

“I’ll be back soon. Try to rest before I get back because even riding in a car will most likely jar you around a good bit.” He says, walking out the door without my reply.

It takes a full ten minutes just as I’m about to fall asleep again that I realize he never asked me where my apartment is and I know I’ve never given him the address.

Just who the hell is this guy? He obviously has connections although I’m certain they are not the same connections that Scotty has.

If he were involved with Scotty or any of his men, he’d have turned me over to them by now. He definitely wouldn’t be going after a cat that I almost cried over.

As soon as we get on the road, I think it’s time that the two of us do quite a bit of talking. Starting with who he is and why he was in Washington D.C.
