Chapter 2
Raven
The pain is what I feel first before I can even try to open my eyes. Neither of which are open enough to see where I’m at or how badly I’ve been hurt.
I do remember what happened though. Scotty’s thugs found me. I waited too long. Trying to reach out with my hand, hoping to get a clue where I’m at, I stiffen the second I feel someone stop me from doing so.
“It’s okay. You’re safe. You are badly hurt and shouldn’t move.” I hear whispered from right beside me.
I can’t tell who it is but the voice sounds vaguely familiar. It’s certainly not the assholes that did this to me.
Someone must have scared them off before they could take me away. At least that’s what I hope and that this person, whoever they are, does not plan to do the same.
I’ll never go back, even if that means taking my own life. I’ve seen what he does to the women he claims to own. By the time he’s finished with them, they all wish for death.
“Who...” I try to ask but my throat is too scratchy.
Feeling a straw at my lips, I eagerly sip at it, feeling thirstier than I’ve ever been.
“Don’t drink too quickly. You should rest.” When I feel the bed move like he stood up, I quickly grab hold of whatever I can. I know that it’s stupid but for now he’s being nice. I don’t want him to leave me alone.
“I promise not to go far, little bird.” Patting my hand, he lays it back onto the bed. “Rest. I’ll be here when you wake up again. I promise.” The more he talks to me; I realize I recognize that accent.
“Gio?” I whisper softly.
“Yes little bird. Now go to sleep.” I feel his hand gently touch my cheek at the same time a tear falls from my eye.
For now I’m safe. And with that realization, I drift off to sleep.
