She frowns confused, “I thought you were the King?” she asks innocently, and we all laugh. If only we could all see the world through the simple and wondrous eyes of a child.

“I am,” I start. “It’s a long story,” I end with a laugh.

She wiggles to get down and rushes to Jace and gives him her fist which he then brings his too straight away in a fist bump. Of course, he taught her to fist bump. She high fives Lincoln, hugs Marcus’ legs, and then runs over to Zack and holds her arms out to be picked up.

Arthur and Helen are having date night for their anniversary, so Zack is on babysitting duty for the night. “Don’t let her run you wild, Z. Or bribe you into a late night,” I tease, and he smirks.

“Hey what happens on Uncle watch stays on Uncle watch. That’s why I’m her favorite,” Zack says.

“Now, we all know I’m her real favorite,” Logan states, as he saunters in from down the hall. He looks just as devastating as the guys do in his tux and I don’t miss Lincoln quickly checking him out, unfortunately neither does Logan.

“What do you think, Linc? Wanna go for a spin?” he does an obnoxious twirl and wiggles his brows at him as he walks right up into his space. He leans closer to him whispering loudly, “Love the glasses by the way, you look even more fuckable than usual.”

Zack coughs loudly covering his crude words from Cassie, but I can’t keep in my smile. Especially when I see the little blush on Linc’s cheeks before he steps back and croaks out, “Come on, we don’t want to be late.”

“Oh, I always come on time,” Logan responds with a smile.

“We are gonna go start bedtime,” Zack cuts in, giving a death glare to Logan at his crudeness.

I step towards them and nuzzle another kiss into Cassie’s hair. “You be good for Uncle Z, okay baby?”

“Always, Mommy,” she replies, and her words instantly hit my heart. Zack gives me a half hug and they both turn and head towards the movie theater room. I watch them until they are out of sight before turning back to the guys.

Logan takes me in and lets out a slow whistle, “Fucking hell, King. You scrub up nice, if only we weren’t related, ey?” he mocks with a wink.

“Careful now,” Marcus warns but Logan just laughs in his face.

“Oh, don’t worry, River,” he replies with a huge grin. “I’m all about sharing my toys,” he adds the last bit with another wink to Lincoln.

“Yeah, well, I’m not,” Marcus grits back, gripping me until he can pull me close into his body. Logan just holds his hands up in defense, “Calm down Alpha dog it was a joke.”

“Jokes are usually funny, Lo,” I muse, trying to ease the situation.

“Oh, you want to be funny? How’s that gun on your thigh? Got the safety on? Wouldn’t want you accidentally shooting anyone,” he teases me sarcastically, as he brings up the time I shot him during our training a couple of years ago.

“That was one time and barely a graze. Trust me, my aim is a lot better now, so if I shoot you now it’s on purpose,” I snap back at him as Marcus and Jace laugh.

“You shot him?” Lincoln asks to confirm, and I nod not taking my eyes off Logan.

“You’re lucky I don’t wanna ruin my look or I’d suggest a spar,” I toss out with a smile.

He rolls his eyes, “Like I’d take you now with the three guard dogs on your back, hardly fair,” he snorts.

“All's fair in love and war,” I smile a smug grin, before adding, “Now, let’s move.”

He salutes me mockingly, “Yes, King,” before he turns towards the garage. He won’t be driving with us tonight, no one knows Logan or my connection to him. He is acting as a bit of a nomad tonight so he can hang around our enemies and see what he can pick up. We will be there if he needs us and vice versa. Hopefully, it won’t come to that, but even if it does, he will have Ash close by.

We make our way to the garage and get into Lincoln's SUV. He starts the engine and then clocks me through the mirror, “You ready for this?”

“Only one way to find out,” I shrug and Jace laughs, lighting up his joint.

“It sure is fun having you around, Elle King,” he says taking a long drag.

I preen under his appreciation, “Right back at you, pretty boy.”
