Taking her chin between my fingers, I give her a severe scowl. “Botherme? Jesus, Grace, why would you—” I pull in a breath. “If you need my support, you’ve got it, no matter what. You didn’t hesitate to have my back with my family. I’m sure as hell not going to let you brave the wolves alone.”
She snickers. “So, we’re just going to keep calling them the wolves now?”
“You started it.”
Her shoulders relax, and she clutches my hand. “I’d love for you to come with me. Thank you.”

“Awedding, huh?” Kevinasks as we walk through the station’s parking lot.
“Yeah. I’ll be gone a few days.”
“I didn’t know you did weddings.”
I give him an annoyed look. “I went to yours.”
“Because I married your sister. You gave her away. Youhadto attend that one.”
True. Weddings aren’t my thing, but... “If Grace wants me to go with her to her sister’s wedding, I’ll put on a damn butler suit and go with her.”
“Can you say ‘whipped?’”
“Shut up, Kevin.”
He chuckles, and I shake my head. We’ve developed a rapport because, admittedly, I behave less like a standoffish dick nowadays. Kevin is great. He makes my sister happy, and he’s turning into a decent friend.
“Well, I hope you have a ball, Row.” He claps my shoulder when we reach his SUV.
“Thanks,” I say, and I make my way to my car. Before I open the door, I spot someone walking toward me.
The good mood I was just in disappears with the next gust of wind. “What the fuck is she doing here?” I grumble, glaring at an approaching Rebecca.
I’m actually glad to be going away with Grace tomorrow. Since Rebecca and James are still here, I’m happy to put a few states between us.
“Rowan.”
Her voice grates on my nerves. “Why are you here?”
Rebecca glares at me with the resentment I’ve gotten since I was born. “You weren’t at home, so I came here.”
“Jesus, are youstalkingme?” I’m seriously thinking about moving since she knows where I live now.
She rolls her eyes. “I’d have to care to do that.”
I lift an eyebrow. She didn’t come with the fake caring-mom act this time, which means this must be urgent. The unease settles in my gut again.
I have an inkling of what this is about.
“What do you want, Rebecca?”
“I heard a rumor.”
“Hmm. I guess you’re going to share.”
“I got another call from that woman, Devlin. She gave me some interesting news.”
I frown. So, she didn’t know about my fortune when she arrived at my door, after all.
