“You couldn’t have known, Sky. You went out there. You checked.”
“What are you talking about?” Gavin asked.
“We heard something last night. I went to the garage and found a box that had fallen. I didn’t even look around after that. How could I be so stupid? Things don’t just fall, they’re moved. I should have realized something else was going on.”
“Stop. You had no reason to think that.” I slumped back. “None of us did. Why would they do this? Two years of doing nothing, then burning down my house? What happened?”
Vince nodded. “We think they somehow figured out that we knew, or at least you.”
“The police are looking for them now,” Gavin added.
“Do you think they’ll get away? With the AS helping?” I was already thinking of the worst-case scenario.
“The Society’s reach is much further than theirs. We’ll find them, Ave,” Sky promised.
I had to believe him. I couldn’t imagine leaving the hospital without them being locked away.
