I raised a brow. “You don't trust Tessa to teach me?”
“No, it’s not that, but I didn’t want any of the guys taking it easy on you. This is incredibly important for you to learn.” That made a little more sense. Each time he came at me to attack, he put forth a real effort. Not like he was trying to hurt me, but I felt the sense of fear and danger like it was real. I needed that to think and respond correctly if the time ever came to use what I’ve learned.
“I appreciate it.”
He smiled.
“So, if I’m better able to protect myself and I have control over my ability, do you think I can meet the rest of the members our age?” I focused on picking at my leggings as if my question was casual and not something hanging in the back of my mind for weeks.
“Oh. I’m not sure.” He cleared his throat. “There are still some things you need to do.”
What else could I possibly have to prove? I was getting sick of the Society giving me the run around. “Like what?”
He hesitated, and Tessa came back in with water bottles and granola bars. “Once you’re ready, we’re going to start rear attacks.”
I glanced at Sky, but his attention was focused on the snack. I’d have to press the issue later.
