“But what.”

“If Angelo and I end up going out, and I’m sure we will, how would I explain a red backside?”

“Not easily, and if you two end up together, you wouldn’t feel comfortable continuing things with me either.”

“Zach, you’re right.”

“And I have a sneaking suspicion he might be waiting in the wings to pick up where I left off.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

AS ANNA LEE STAREDat Zach with wide eyes, he could see the thought hadn’t even occurred to her.

“I don’t know him very well, or anything about him,” Zach added hastily. “I’m only basing this on a hunch, but that’s what I was trying to say about the timing. Regardless, if things do develop between you and Angelo, you must find a way to tell him what you need. It’s very important. You can’t hold back.”

“Are you saying I should explain what happened between us?”

“No, don’t mention me. Just tell him you had someone in your life who took you in hand when you needed it. Explain how it helps you, how you like a man who takes control, but in a good way. Not like some Neanderthal jerk who wants to drag you around by the hair, or bully you into doing things you don’t want to do.”

“He might not get it.”

“From what I’ve heard about Angelo, I have a feeling he will.”

“Telling him something like that is a scary thought. I’m not sure I can.”

“Anna, you’re a very insightful woman with great instincts. Trust them. You’ll know when the time is right.”

“Zach, I don’t know what to say. I’m going to miss you so much, and I think I’m going to cry. Sorry.”

“You don’t need to be sorry,” he said softly, pulling her into his arms. “Like I said, I’ll still be just a phone call away. Besides, a handsome Italian has just waltzed into your life. You’ll be busy with him.”

“I hope so. He’s actually going to be here soon.”

“He is?”

“Weird, huh? There’s that word again. He called me about fifteen minutes ago and asked if he could come by. His agent sent him a script and he’s just crazy about it. He wants me to read it with him. He thinks I’d be perfect for the female lead, and he’s determined to move heaven and earth to land the role of the male lead.”
