That’s the motto we’ve always lived by.

“Who is that?” Lavender whispers into my ear, clenching my hand. “Who are these people?”

I whisper the words that bring relief and joy, even if the sight of them doing all this would have horrified me just days ago. “My family. That’s my family.”

That’s when I realize the snipers on the roof are Uncle Micaden and Aunt Amalia. They were always the best shooters during our trainings.

“Get away from the line of fire!” Uncle Arson orders us, “Now, Aileen!”

I nod and push Lavender toward the greenhouse because right now, it’s the safest place.

Once that’s all done, we can come back for the people in the mansion.

However, as Lavender rushes to the greenhouse without looking back, I halt my movements and swipe my gaze over all the gore happening right now.

Among all the beloved faces… I don’t see the one that matters the most.

Dad is nowhere in sight, and my heart drops at this because it can only mean one thing.

He would go straight for Rush, thinking he’s in the castle, and end up in Jade’s trap.

Without stopping to think about my actions, I dart in a different direction, ready to go back inside the castle as my family takes care of all these assholes.

However, right as I’m moving to the back door, away from everyone’s vision, a strong arm grabs me, and someone places his hand over my mouth, trapping my scream. “I caught the prize,” Jade sneers.

Oh, no.

It seems no matter how many times I escape his clutches, fate brings me right back.

The monster has me now.

But the only thing I can think of is the two men I love the most and what they will do to each other once they meet.

Because I won’t survive either of their deaths.

CHAPTER TEN

“Your name is Aileen Scott.

Always remember that.

No matter what happens… you will survive.

Because my blood runs through your veins.”

Lachlan

Rush

“Fuck!” Rafael mutters as we speed toward the castle, smoke coming from it while it must burn from the inside. “Fire.”

Judging by his tone, the fire along with thunder booming reminds him of the night everything went to hell in our lives, and maybe he’s even having flashbacks.

While I despise fire, right now it brings me relief because it means the dark protégés are here, and they will take care of whatever shit happened inside.

I don’t care about any damages as long as my family survives this—and Jade fucking dies, but only at my hand.

In fact, his death will be long and painful, so prolonged it might take me years to kill him as he sits in a cage and begs for mercy that no one will grant him.
