She pushes against my chest. “Donotcall me that, you lost that right.”
Hating the tone she’s catching with me, I growl back, “What the fuck are you doing here?”
“It’s really none of your business but I’m waiting on my ride,” she says with a blank look on her face.
“Don’t be a smartass… you know what I mean. What are you doing in my town?” I growl, pointing to my chest. Unable to keep my temper in check, I ask, “Did you come here to be closer to your future husband hand-picked by your grandmother?”
“Again, none of your business Greyson,” she huffs out at me.
I grab her hips, loving the feel of her curves beneath my grip.
“Did that rich prick tell you, you needed to drop weight? You still look hot as fuck Lottie, but I can feel it here,” I say squeezing her hips. “And I can see it here,” I whisper, grazing my hand across her waist as she inhales a shaky breath. “Tell those fuckers you’re perfect. Don’t let them get in your head, Lottie.”
I don’t care how bad she hurt me, I hate the thought of anyone pushing their warped ideas of what they think women should look like onto her.
She takes me by surprise when her elbows come down on my forearms knocking my hands from her waist. Creating a little distance between us, she moves off the wall and seethes at me, “I did this for me. I needed to take my anger out on something since I couldn’t punch you. Kickboxing was the perfect way to do that. I needed to take control of my health and make some lifestyle changes after...”
“Trouble, you ready?” Corbin Snow interrupts and I could explode.
“Who the fuck is Trouble?”
He ignores me and smiles at Lottie who is now walking towards him.
“Lottie! Wait, we aren’t done.”
She turns back to me. “Yes, we are. You made sure of that.”
Snow puts his hand on her lower back.
“Get your fucking hands off her,” I say, moving towards them as that black fog starts to take over. Nox and Ford must have picked up on the tension because all of a sudden, they’re both holding me back and asking what the fuck my problem is.
As I watch her walk through the front doors to the parking lot with Snow, I stop fighting them knowing they won’t let me go.
I pull at my hair in frustration...how did we get to this?
Nox’s head swivels back to me once he sees them go out the doors. “Oh, fuuuck.”
Great, I should have known his perceptive ass would figure it out.
“It's her, isn’t it?
I don’t answer and then Ford says, “Wait, what?”
Nox continues, “I’ve only heard people call her Charlotte today but seeing how you just reacted to her leaving with Snow it hit me.”
Ford catches on, “Shiiit… that’s Lottie,yourLottie?”
I can’t bring myself to say it because right now she’s not mine and it seems like she is going to do everything she can to make sure I know it.
Chapter Fourteen
Thispartyisreallysomething else. I knew it would be with the Chargers' big win tonight. Our team kicked some serious ass. My old high school didn’t do football like they do in the south. The whole town basically came out to watch the boys play. It was an intense game, and I was happy to have Frankie by my side to fill me in on who’s who on the team. Even though my eyes took in the entire field, they couldn’t help but focus in on the player that has my heart skipping a beat.Foolish thing, pining for someone who is no longer theirs.
Not going to lie though, his ass really does look spectacular in his uniform. His tight pants and broad shoulders coupled with his new sleeve of tattoos have me crossing my legs. I wonder what theme he went with on this arm. I loved his forest-themed arm, tracing the intricate lines of the trees and moon, but now, with both arms covered in ink… gah! A girl can only take so much temptation.
I never imagined what my first High School bonfire party would be like, but I guess it would be something like this. We’re somewhere in the outskirts of town in a clearing with massive trees surrounding us. There are dirt roads leading to this spot, so I'm assuming it's a regular hang-out. The fire is roaring, and music is blasting. People are drinking, laughing, and having a good time. I'm about three drinks in and for me, that’s usually enough.
Yesterday and today went by surprisingly quickly. I didn’t have a single run-in with Greyson and was only shoulder-checked by Amber one time. Of course, she feigned innocence when I said something, but I know I was her target. Does she feel threatened by me? She made it clear with that video she won.
