Page 36 of Make You Love Me

I can’t have this conversation right now. There’s so much more that she doesn’t understand.

“I just need some time. I’ll call you later.”

Tuning her out as she calls my name again, I jump on my motorcycle and get the hell out of dodge.

Fuck, I can barely breathe. The air feels like it’s been knocked out of my lungs.

I am in this so deep, just seeing another man near her has vomit burning the back of my throat.

Logically I know she didn’t do anything wrong, and she came after me not giving a shit what he thought, but still…

How long will it be before she decides he’s the type of guy she really wants to be with? She lives nine hundred miles away for fuck’s sake.

But I need her. I love her.

I also need a distraction to clear my head before I talk to her, and I know the perfect place to go for that.

Chapter Eleven

ShitShitShit!!

“Greyson!” My last call to him is drowned out by the noise of his engine as his bike rips down the road.

I drop to my knees as a sob rips out of my throat. No, no, no. It's not what he thinks. I would never do that to him… I'm not his mother.

I hear Jacob’s footsteps approach behind me.

“Charlotte, are you okay?” he asks as he crouches next to me, placing his hands on my shoulders. I flinch at the contact and quickly stand to distance myself.

“No! I’m not okay.”

I dart to the backyard to find my phone. Needing to call him. He needs to know this is all a misunderstanding.

“I’m guessing that was him?” Jacob asks as if he couldn’t already figure it out. His footsteps follow closely behind me.

I swing my body around, trotting backwards. I can't waste any time.

“Yes, that was my boyfriend, who clearly got the wrong idea from whatever it is he thinks he saw.”

“Oh…” he says, looking a bit perturbed.

I turn back around as I approach the bench where I last saw my cell.

“What do you mean… Oh?” I question over my shoulder.

“I know—I mean, I didn’t realize you had a boyfriend until you mentioned it. Ethel never said anything. Shit—I’m sorry.”

I huff out as I shake my head. “Of course she didn’t. To her, you and I are a match made in heaven.”

I grab my phone and shoot off a quick text. Knowing he’s on his bike, I won’t get an immediate reply, but I have to try.

Me:It’s not what you think… Please call me. I love you and only you.

I look to see Jacob still standing nearby. Watching me with caution, like I'm some sort of bomb just moments away from detonation. Well, he isn’t wrong.

“For what it’s worth, I’m truly sorry, Charlotte.”

Clutching my phone close, wishing for it to ding with a notification, I excuse myself from Jacob.
